Building on the annual CC Day of Service, this year the CCE is continuing to organize an expanded "Week of Action" from September 30th- October 5th. During this time, the CCE is working to provide opportunities to inspire students, staff and faculty to engage in our community on and off campus.

During this week, Athletics will also be accepting donations of personal hygiene products to be donated to TESSA. Boxes will be located in the Great Hall of El Pomar, Loomis Hall, South Hall, and Mathias Hall.

Blood helps trauma and burn patients, premature infants, heart surgery patients, organ transplant recipients and those fighting cancer, among others. Finding a future career path, or even a temporary job, can be a daunting task-- especially when you are not sure what to look for. Gretchen Wardell from the Career Center will be co-facilitating this CES workshop to help you learn how to find work that matches, or incorporates, your personal values.

Trauma-Informed Care for Refugee Volunteering with Refugee Alliance

This training is for CC Refugee Alliance volunteers and community members working with refugees and displaced people. Learn more about how the trauma that refugees have experienced affects their lives, and how to more effectively and compassionately interact with them through your cultural mentoring or tutoring. In this interactive session, participants will gain an understanding of the widespread experience of trauma, with special focus on refugee populations. We will also explore the ways in which those lived experiences impact how people are able to engage in school, work, and daily life. Core principles of trauma-informed environments and practices will be addressed, as well as pathways to recovery.

Interest in one day running for office? Listen to current female elected officials and women who've run to learn how they did it, why they did it, what they'd do differently and how YOU can do it too! Discussion: "Normalizing the Prison Environment: How Changing Prisons Can Help Rehabilitate Individuals and Reduce the Prison Population"

Please join us for a screening of a documentary comparing Halden Prison in Norway to the Attica Correctional Facility in New York. After the screening, Colorado Department Corrections Executive Director Dean Williams will join the audience in an engaging discussion about the future of prisons in Colorado, and across the country. This event is being organized by CC's History Department.

Place-Based Engagement Panel: A Non-profit Exploration & Learning Series

This panel features representatives from RMFI, CS Parks & Recreation, The Catamount Institute, and Concrete Couch. These organizations all focus on developing more intentional, thoughtful, and engaged environmental stewards. These organizations offer opportunities for CS residents, including youth, students, and seniors, to get involved in their community through place-based engagement. Students who are interested in environmental stewardship and inclusive community-building are highly encouraged to attend.

Pikes Peak United Way "Power of Philanthropy Competition"

In collaboration with Pike Peak United Way, join us in a Power of Philanthropy Competition in sharing your time, talents, and treasure! This event will host three separate activities in Worner to engage with community alongside your peers. CC, UCCS, and PPCC will all compete on this day for the greatest percentage of the student body participating and the school with the greatest number will receive an award from Mayor Suthers. Snacks and a free t-shirt for participating will be provided!

Activities include: Open House - Letter writing to elected officials with the Political Action Coalition, Blanket Tying to benefit Inside Out Youth Services, Organizing donation drive materials to benefit TESSA.

Sustainable Community Development Coalition - First Meeting of the Year

Come join the Sustainable Community Development Coalition as they host Patience Kabwasa, Director of Programs at Colorado Springs Food Rescue. Patience will discuss community organizing strategies used in the past, current projects, and how CSFR is making the Springs a more sustainable and equitable place. This meeting will also include a discussion of the issues the coalition hopes to address and what people are interested in. Anyone interested in sustainability, food security, health equity, social equity, local food production, food redistribution, attainable/affordable housing, etc. is welcome.

Education Coalition - First Meeting of the Year

Mueller State Park Trail Improvement

Help improve Rock Canyon Trail (Trail #15) in Mueller State Park! Participants will be installing rock and timber box steps, moving materials, improving drainage, and restoring social trails in this beautiful area between Rock Pond and Geer Pond, near the border of Mueller State Park and Dome Rock State Wildlife Area.

The approach hike to our work site will be minimal as we will run a volunteer shuttle to a nearby access point. Approximate hike time to project is 5 to 10 minutes from shuttle drop-off.

Engage Local History at the Pioneers Museum!

In collaboration with the History Department, students, staff, and faculty are all invited to lunch and an introduction to the Pioneers Museum. Museum Director Matt Mayberry will provide an overview of Colorado Springs history, showcase new exhibits, and discuss the museum's archival collections. Lunch will be provided.

Help us deliver a hot meal to the Colorado Springs community! Join us at the Marian House to either prepare the meal for the day or serve food to the people of downtown. The Marian House is open 365 days a year, serving on average 600 meals a day.

Creek Week Clean-Up

Be part of the largest watershed-wide clean-up in the state of Colorado! Creek Week volunteers clean up litter along a creek, trail, park or open space throughout the watershed. Join students, staff, faculty, and community members in cleaning up Monument Valley Creek. Meet at the dirt lot on Glen Ave. near the Van Briggle Building.
