The Tiger Jazz Ensemble is a traditional 18-piece big band consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Auditions for the ensemble are held at the beginning of the academic year with the opportunity for qualified students to challenge into the ensemble at the beginning of second semester. Interested students should look for information concerning Tiger Jazz auditions at the beginning of the academic year and second semester challenges upon their return from Winter Break.

Tiger Jazz performs two formal concerts each year (one each semester) in Packard Performance Hall as well as occasional performances around campus for various events. Tiger Jazz is not just about performance. Students gain experience in a wide variety of jazz related subjects such as improvisation, jazz history, Latin/Afro-Cuban rhythm, and blues roots in America's indigenous musical art form.

Some instruments and percussion/amps are available from the school for rental. Private lessons with the applied jazz faculty are available and encouraged. Please feel free to contact Ricky Sweum if you have any questions.
