Tiger Jazz meets on Wednesdays during weeks 1-3 of each block in the Cornerstone Arts Center Flex Room. Contact Ricky for information on how to join.

Rehearsals: Weeks 1 through 3 from 4-6pm (no rehearsal during the 4th week of each block)

Jazz Hang: Weeks 1 & 3 from 6-7pm (open jam to CC community, listen to recordings, talk about jazz, etc...)

Jazz Workshop and Jam Session: Week 2 from 6:30-8:30pm (professional house band, free and open to the public, all ages and skills levels welcome)

The Tiger Jazz Ensemble is Colorado College’s dynamic full-size jazz big band, consisting of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, guitar, bass, drums, vocals and more. Students are immersed within a multitude of jazz styles, improvisation, and history. Tiger Jazz performs on and off campus multiple times throughout the year. If you loved playing in Jazz Band in high school, or want to play jazz for the first time, Tiger Jazz is your home.

Tiger Jazz consists of two performance groups, one full-sized big band and a by-audition smaller combo. Members of the Tiger Jazz Audition Combo are determined by audition and selected by the instructor. Only members interested in being in the Audition Combo need to audition.

Tiger Jazz is supplemented by community members when instrument positions aren’t filled by CC students. Using community members in Tiger Jazz is almost always utilized to build a full ensemble, and the open positions vary from semester to semester. Community members that are interested, should reach out to the instructor via email to inquire about availability.

All Tiger Jazz CC students will receive two free private lessons with the ensemble director to bolster learning the repertoire. Although not required, students are highly encouraged to take private lessons on their respective instrument along with enrolling in “Jazz Improvisation and Theory” adjunct course to supplement their development in Tiger Jazz. Drums, percussion, piano, vibraphone, and amps are provided for class, and many wind instruments are available from the school for rental.
