New members by audition only, contact Mike VanArsdale for details.
Rehearsals: Tuesday evenings, in Packard Room 9.
The Tiger Jazz Ensemble is a traditional 18-piece big band consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, guitar, bass, drums, and whoever else thinks they have what it takes! Auditions for the ensemble are held at the beginning of the academic year with the opportunity for qualified students to challenge into the ensemble at the beginning of second semester. Interested students should look for information concerning Tiger Jazz auditions at the beginning of the academic year and second semester challenges upon their return from Winter Break.
Under the direction of Mike VanArsdale, Tiger Jazz performs two formal concerts each year (one each semester) in Packard Hall Theater, as well as occasional performances around campus for various events. Tiger Jazz is not just about performance. Throughout the year students are interactively exposed to a wide variety of jazz related subjects from learning jazz improvisation and history to understanding Latin/Afro-Cuban jazz rhythm and funk roots in jazz music.
Some instruments and percussion/amps are available from the school for rental. Private lessons with the applied jazz faculty are available and encouraged.
If you have any questions feel free to contact Mike VanArsdale.
Tiger Jazz, a swingin' tradition, baby!
