The Packard Hall Sound Booth is the perfect place to capture natural sounding, beautifully articulate chamber music recordings. Packard Hall is one of the finest acoustic performance halls in Colorado and our recording system is designed to capture every nuance. For sound reinforcement we have a Behringer X32 mixing console feeding B&H 10D distribution amps and speakers. It hosts a nine foot Steinway Hamburg piano and a nine foot Steinway New York piano. The hall has 6 dedicated flown Sennheiser MKH 8000 small diaphragm condenser mics with motorized positioning to flawlessly capture medium sized orchestral performances. Additional mics can be added from our collection to best record any ensemble. In the booth we have an Apple 21.5" iMac with 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 running Avid ProTools and Ableton Live. We also run a back up recording system using an Allen and Heath ICE*16 sixteen track hard disc recorder to ensure that every one of a kind performance is captured. For microphone preamps we have a Grace Design m801 eight channel interface as well as a two channel Grace Design m201 for a total of ten independent transparent input channels. The Grace m801 also has a Dante upgrade card to tie the booth into all of our recording facilities with audio over IP. Monitoring is via a Grace Design m920 high resolution monitoring system feeding a pair of Genelec 8030B near field monitors. From faculty recitals, to visiting artists, to student performer and composers and our summer music festival, the Packard Recording Booth can record them all superbly.
