Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historian. Contact Jane Murphy (jmurphy@coloradocollege.edu) for more information.

Get Involved

Deadline November 4, 2022. 

  • Must be a Phi Alpha Theta member to participate. 
  • All paper proposals are to be submitted by faculty advisors.
  • Convention will be held in Albuquerque NM, January 4th - 7th, 2023.

Doctoral Scholarship 

For students who are pursuing a Ph.D in History. Deadline in March. 

Graduate Student Scholarship 

For Students entering graduate school for the first time. Deadline in March. 

Graydon A. Tunstall Ungraduate Student Scholarship

For students entering their senior year of majoring in Modern European History. Deadline in March. 

Book Award 

For faculty to submit a book publication. Deadline in July. 

Best Chapter Award

Chapters may submit digitial scrapbooks of their activities and meetings. Deadline in July. 

Phi Alpha Theta Paper Prize Award

For graduate and undergraduate students who have written outstanding papers. Deadline in July. 

Charles Redd Center Book Award 

For faculty to submit for the best book on the American West. Deadline in September.
