Opportunities with CC Partners Abroad

Our Colorado College partner programs and universities around the world occasionally offer faculty opportunities to visit their programs and become familiar with the offerings, in order to enhance student advising and supports available back on the CC campus, and also to strengthen the curricular and departmental bonds and understanding between these partner programs and CC academics.

• DIS holds an annual International Educators Workshop in Copenhagen and Stockholm.
• IES Abroad offers  range of Familiarization Tours each year as well as assisting with individual visits. 
• ISDSI Thailand offers a 5-day site visit annually to their Culture, Ecology, and Community semester program.
• Sea Education Association (SEA) Semester offers annual familiarization voyages on-ship/at sea.
• SIT regularly offers faculty development on-site workshops and thematic seminars at their centers around the world. See current upcoming faculty seminar offerings, and upcoming group site visits to SIT program centers.

Other partner organizations may also offer opportunities for a group visit, or the possibility of an individual faculty member visit. Global Education can work with our partners to determine if such a visit is possible for you. 

The Center for Global Education has a limited pool of funds dedicated to supporting faculty for  independent scouting trips.  As the fund is limited, we do operate on a first-come-first-served basis, with criteria funding requests.

• CJE Funds can be used for a faculty member to develop a Block Away course at any location, Global Education funds are designed to help expand the variety of destinations for CC Blocks Away. For this reason, Global Education Funds will only be provided for proposals in which the host nation is one that has not seen a CC Faculty-Led program on site in the past 5 years.  
• Limits on budgeted expenses for the Global Education funds mirror the requirements and limits cited for the CJE Fund. 

• Faculty who have applied for CJE Funds but were unable to receive funding through that program can receive up to $3,000 in Global Education Funds. 

• Faculty who have been approved for CJE Funds can receive a supplemental grant of up to $1,500 towards the scouting trip expenses. 

• So as to have funding available for as many faculty as possible, a particular faculty member can receive this supplemental funding only once every 3 years.

Several of our study away partner organizations have programs to hire faculty from the United States for short-duration (courses or semesters) visiting faculty positions. These are options some faculty might explore during a sabbatical from Colorado College. 

CIEE Visiting Faculty
Faculty can serve as a guest instructor in the Open Campus program at one of CIEE's Global Institutes in Berlin, Cape Town, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Copenhagen, Santiago, Rio de Janeiro, or Buenos Aires. The Open Campus modules are roughly similar to the Block Plan. 

DIS (Copenhagen/Stockholm): Faculty are invited to apply to teach an upper division 3-credit course for one semester at DIS in Copenhagen. This international collaboration benefits our own faculty, who enjoy knowledge sharing, and is intended to deepen our institutional partnership.

IES Study Abroad: IES has two different programs to engage U.S. based faculty. 

• Teaching Grants for Consortium faculty on sabbatical to teach a course at select IES Abroad Centers for a semester.

• Research Grants for faculty members from IES Abroad member schools to visit an IES Abroad Center for up to a month to engage in their own research that relates to the Center's curriculum, give lectures, and collaborate with IES Abroad faculty.

Japan Study at Waseda University, Tokyo: Japan Study seeks a faculty member to serve as their Resident Director of Japan Study. The Japan Study Resident Director spends an academic year at Waseda University in Tokyo with 30-40 students. This position is open to Japan specialists and non-specialists. The application deadline is April 30 for the academic year beginning 16 months later.

Budapest Semester in Mathematics: BSM offers a Director's Mathematician in Residence Program (DMiR), conducted under the direction of the BSM North American office. This program is open to individual faculty members, or to research teams applying jointly. Spend three weeks during the spring, summer, or fall as the  Mathematician in Residence and enjoy a unique opportunity for professional development, networking, and collaboration with renowned Hungarian mathematicians. The program funds travel to Hungary and housing in Budapest. Office space, internet access, and a math library are also available. In addition to providing in-country support, local BSM staff will coordinate a social program including an orientation, city tour, and welcome banquet. Faculty members accepted to the program (DMiR scholars) will be expected to be available to BSM students two to three hours per week and to give a short lecture series, targeted to BSM students, on their research area.
 

College Year in Athens:  CYA has a long tradition of inviting exceptional senior scholars from the U.S. and Europe to teach as visiting faculty for a semester or a year. Contact Alexia Lingaas, Associate Director in the CYA North American Office to learn more.
