Library & Online Resources

Tutt Library

Classics books are shelved in two main sections of both the Garden Level stacks and the Second Floor reference collection:

  • PA for Greek and Latin language and literature.
  • DE for Greco-Roman history.

The resource librarian for Classics is Kayla Lenkner, whom students are highly encouraged to contact. She has put together an indispensable Classics Research Guide.

Online Materials

There are countless Internet resources for the study of Classics. Here are a few particularly helpful sites focused on providing access to primary sources:

  • Loeb Classical Library (CC sign in required) offers digitized versions of 500+ volumes of Latin and Greek texts with facing English translations. Tutt Library also has an extensive collection of these books in print (PA 3612 for Greek, PA 6156 for Latin).
  • Perseus Digital Library is another mammoth collection of Greek and Latin texts with facing English translations. Individual Latin and Greek words are hyperlinked to dictionary definitions.
  • Also recommended are Diotíma(gender and social history), Lacus Curtius (Greco-Roman history), and the Chicago Homer (Greek epic).

Scholarly Organizations

The North American professional association for Classical philology is the Society for Classical Studies(SCS), and for Classical archaeology it is the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA). At the regional level, Colorado is part of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS). All of these organizations hold meetings, publish academic materials, and offer scholarships and awards related to the study of Classics. The Classics Department is an institutional member of both the SCS and CAMWS. Finally, our state organization is the Colorado Classics Association, which provides a network for area Latin teachers.
