Generative AI at Colorado College

Our Approach to Generative AI

Explore thoughtfully. Act responsibly. Welcome all perspectives.

Our community is still exploring what Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) means for our learning, our work, and our people. Rather than dictating one approach, CC supports open conversations, thoughtful experimentation, and multiple approaches to using–or choosing not to use–GenAI.

CC's approach to GenAI is shaped by two complementary documents: a Generative AI Philosophy and a forthcoming set of Generative AI Guidelines.

The Generative AI Philosophy describes how our institution approaches GenAI in a conceptual and general sense. It was drafted by a representative group of students, faculty, and staff co-chaired by Associate Professor Ryan Bañagale and Chad Schonewill, Director of Frontline Solutions & Support. The group incorporated input from across the CC community through grassroots discussions, pop-up events, class sessions, and more during the 2024-25 academic year.

The Generative AI Guidelines (currently in development) aim to provide more literal and specific direction and establish basic boundaries for GenAI use at the College. This guidance was drafted by Khaleel Gathers, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, with input from students, faculty, and staff gathered by the GenAI working group in 2024-2025.

Together, they articulate a basic framework for our community and inform specific divisional Generative AI policies.

Generative AI Guidelines (coming soon!)
This site is designed to help the CC community explore GenAI thoughtfully and responsibly. Here you’ll find basic information on GenAI, tool recommendations and cautions, stories of its use in varied and creative ways on campus and beyond, and shared expectations for teaching, learning, and working in our community. This resource was compiled by ITS in collaboration with Colorado College’s GenAI working group, which was active during the 2024-25 academic year.
