Julian Kraus-Polk ('15) collaborated with several other students in 2015 to perform an audit of Colorado College Dining Services. This audit was carried out with the support of the Real Food Challenge, an organization which helps students to challenge their schools in offering more local, organic, fair trade and "real" foods.
The students found that 22% of food offered at CC was "real". While lower than the result of 30% found by an audit performed in 2013, Kraus-Polk believes that the timing of the audit affected the outcome. The 2013 audit lasted 2 weeks, as opposed to the 8 weeks of the 2015 audit. The 2015 audit was also carried out during winter months, when less local food is available.
