In 2013, Colorado College triumphed in an overwhelming victory over the University of Denver, and took home the trophy in the CC vs. DU alumni participation challenge.
Flash forward four years: On Nov. 1, CC and DU went head-to-head again in the Gold Pan Giving Challenge. The plan was for the first school to receive gifts from 1,000 donors to win the challenge. However, both Colorado College and the University of Denver each received gifts from more than 1,000 donors in less than two weeks. So, the challenge was extended.
CC vs. DU — Gold Pan Donor Challenge
The school with the most total donors before 11:59 p.m. on Giving Tuesday (Nov. 28) would take home the trophy. Alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students were all eligible to participate in this year’s challenge.
Gifts also counted toward the Campaign for Colorado College, a $435 million initiative that CC launched during Homecoming 2017.
DU had a final count of 2,942 donors totaling $1,074,472 in donations, and CC had 4,003 donors and $1,050,000 in gifts.
It’s official – CC won!
"The challenge was a huge boost for both schools, and I’m very pleased with what we both accomplished," says Kerry Brooke Steere, director of annual giving for CC.
