Student Pet Policy

In Residence Halls

Since residential buildings are not suited for most pets and animals can carry and transmit diseases, the only animals that students are permitted to have in the residential areas at any time, other than service animals and emotional support animals approved by the Office of Accessibility Resources and pets approved for students living in senior cottages, are fish/crustaceans that live underwater at all times. All pets must be kept in the student's room/apartment at all times. Any pet or animal that causes a disturbance to the community, as determined by the RLC, must be removed from the residential facilities by the student or hall staff may contact the Humane Society or appropriate organizations to have the animal removed from campus. A disturbance to the community could include being out of a cage, smelling bad, causing damage, or causing a nuisance to neighbors. Damages caused by pets will be charged to the owner/caretaker.

Outside of Residence Halls

Pets are not allowed in campus buildings, other than residence halls as described above. Pets should not be left unattended (e.g., should not be tethered to a tree or other object when the owner is not present). Pets are not allowed to run off-leash. Damages caused by pets will be charged to the owner/caretaker. Any pet that becomes a nuisance will be barred from campus. The college reserves the right to remove unleashed, noisy, or menacing pets from campus. The college, with the cooperation of the Humane Society, will, when necessary, pick up and impound such pets.

All pets on the college's campus must be current on vaccinations and licensed as required by the city of Colorado Springs, El Paso County and/or the state of Colorado. Those animals required to be vaccinated against rabies are required to wear their rabies vaccination tags at all times.

Note: The Student Pet Policy does not apply to service animals.
