Accessibility Resources

The mission of Accessibility Resources is to collaborate with the Colorado College community to ensure that all aspects of campus life are accessible, equitable, and inclusive for people who experience disabilities. In accordance with Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Colorado College faculty and staff work closely with students who have documented disabilities to ensure equal access to the college's programs, activities, services, and facilities.

  • The ADA defines disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Major life activities include, but are not limited to: learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, communicating, walking, seeing, hearing, and speaking.
  • Accessibility Resources is the designated office at Colorado College that maintains disability-related documents and determines reasonable accommodations and services for students with disabilities.
  • Accessibility Resources offers a wide range of accommodations and services that are provided on an individualized basis. Accommodations include but are not limited to: extended time for exams, a distraction-reduced exam setting, use of a computer with word processing for exams, note-taking support, and accessible formats of text. Additionally, Accessibility Resources provides academic counseling and a variety of assistive technology options to enhance students' academic experiences.
  • Students who choose to request accommodations and services should complete the "Request for Accommodations and Services" online form and provide appropriate documentation of disability to Accessibility Resources. Students should contact Accessibility Resources for guidance on the documentation needed for their individual situations.
  • Students should apply for disability-related housing accommodations through Accessibility Resources. Accessibility Resources collaborates with the Offices of Housing and Residential Experience to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to college housing. Please refer to the guidelines for Housing Accommodations for additional information.
  • Students can request accommodations for a variety college processes, including those related to conduct, the Honor Council, and Title IX/nondiscrimination. Students should contact both the office that is coordinating the process and Accessibility Resources to request accommodations.
  • Students should keep a copy of their documentation of disability for their personal records. Accessibility Resources destroys documentation and other disability-related information seven years after a student's last date of attendance.
  • Students are responsible for requesting accommodations and services in a timely manner to allow staff sufficient time to evaluate requests and implement reasonable accommodations and services.
  • Requests for accommodations and services that are not supported by appropriate documentation or that result in an undue burden or a fundamental alteration may be denied. However, every effort will be made to implement reasonable and effective accommodations and services.
  • The college respects the privacy of its students. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act governs all student record information. Information concerning student disabilities and accommodations is kept separate from student academic files. This information is confidential and will not be released to third parties without the written permission of the student, except in circumstances involving matters of health, safety, and law. Information regarding student disabilities and requests for accommodations is available to college faculty and staff on a need-to-know basis.
