Learning Outcomes

All classes fulfill number 1 below and one or more of numbers 2, 3, or 4.

1) Students will be able to identify key elements of the non-Western topic (society, cultural practice, etc.) in question that mark it as distinctive.

AND ONE OF:

2) Students will be able to compare and contrast the non-Western topic (society, cultural practice, etc.) in question with similar topics in the West.

OR

3) Students will be able to analyze the non-Western topic (society, cultural practice, etc.) in question by describing how its different elements (political, cultural, economic, etc.) fit together and intersect with each other.

OR

4) Students will be able to create a document or cultural product (music, theater, art, film, etc.) that demonstrates an understanding of the non-Western society in question.

Faculty may also elect to assess outcome #5 below in language courses:

5) Students will be able to read, write, speak, and understand oral communication in the non-Western language in question at the appropriate level.
