Faculty Advising

Advising at Colorado College empowers every student to thrive in the immersive environment of the block plan and to articulate the meaning and purpose of their liberal arts education. Advisors support each student as a whole person to identify and achieve their educational, professional, and personal goals.

Students have an academic planning meeting with their faculty advisor every semester. As professors at the College, faculty advisors understand learning on the Block Plan, and they are well versed in the General Education curriculum and College requirements. They support students in exploring potential majors, advise students in their area of study, and help connect students with opportunities related to their academic, personal, and professional interests.

Pre-Registration Advising Meetings Each Semester

Students meet with their faculty advisors at least once each semester during the course pre-registration period. Most advisors will reach out to schedule an appointment at the start of the pre-registration period, but students are welcome to contact their advisor proactively as pre-registration approaches. Pre-registration advising meetings provide an opportunity to review academic progress, plan classes for upcoming semesters, and discuss broader interests and goals for your time at CC and beyond. After you review your course plans with your advisor, they’ll share your pre-registration PIN, a code that enables you to pre-register for classes for the following semester.

Building Your Path

Advisors can help you develop a path through Colorado College that enables you to grow academically and personally, but it is your path – so come to your advising meetings ready to share your ideas, plans, and questions. Your advisor can serve as a sounding board and thought partner as you develop a path tailored to your interests and goals.

Major and Minor Advising

When you first arrive at CC, you’ll be assigned a general faculty advisor, typically a professor whose interests overlap with yours or who teaches your CC100 or CC120 course. Your general (pre-major) faculty advisor can help you explore different areas of study, navigate the General Education curriculum, and connect with curricular and co-curricular opportunities at CC. When you declare a major, typically during sophomore year, you’ll begin working with a major advisor, a faculty member in your area of study. If you also declare a minor or a second major, you’ll have additional faculty advisors in these areas.

Have a Question or Want to Check In? Reach Out!

Students can reach out to their faculty advisors at any time with questions or to schedule a meeting. Email is usually the quickest and easiest way to reach your advisor, or you can stop by their office hours. Whether you want to deepen your writing and speaking skills, pursue a semester abroad, explore potential career paths and internships, engage in undergraduate research, or work with an academic coach in the Advising Hub, faculty advisors can connect you with the academic and support resources you need. You can find your current faculty advisor(s) and Hub advisor listed on Stellic.
