Impact of Hurricane Harvey

Dear CC Students, Faculty and Staff,

We have watched the arrival and resulting devastation of Hurricane Harvey, and are keeping the people and communities in Houston and neighboring areas foremost in our hearts and minds.

The storm and flooding have had a direct impact on many in our CC community. Our students and their families who live and work in the Gulf Coast area in Texas, staff and faculty who have family and friends in the area, and students whose flights back to Colorado were cancelled because of airport closures are all affected by this disaster. As our community prepares to assemble for Opening Convocation and the first day of classes, we are reaching out to those students who are directly affected.

Course attendance and academic advising: If your return to CC is delayed, you should contact your faculty member by email to discuss how to engage in and keep up with your academic work. Depending on the class, it might be possible for you to Skype in, or make other arrangements with your professor. You could also contact your faculty advisor, or Associate Dean Pedro de Araujo (pedro.dearaujo@coloradocollege.edu) for other advising questions. For international students, international study and off-campus study affected by the storm, contact Associate Dean Emily Chan (echan@coloradocollege.edu).

Chaplain's Office:

The Chaplains' Office will be using Sacred Grounds this week as a gathering space for students who are seeking support and community. Students can contact chaplain Alex Hernandez-Siegel at ahernandezsiegel@coloradocollege.edu or

719-389-6639.

Counseling Center:

The CC Counseling Center is available for individual counseling and consultation. There is no fee for the first six sessions of counseling. The Center hours are 9am-6pm, weekdays; call 719-389-6093 or email counselingcenter@coloradocollege.edu for appointments. For after hours and weekend needs, call 719-389-6093 and press 2 to be connected to a licensed counselor.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jill
