All current students can apply to become First-Year Program (FYP) mentors. In order to apply to become a mentor, you should take the following steps:
Review the FYP mentor position description (Fall Start and Winter Start) and terms of appointment so that you understand the nature and expectations of the position. You may also visit the OAP office at any time for more information about the position, or if you have any questions.
You will be notified of your status no later than the beginning of block 7
Block 4: Mentor application opens
Block 5 – 6: Students apply to become FYP mentors. OAP will hold Q&A sessions during this time.
Block 7: Notifications sent to all students
Block 8: Welcome lunch for all new FYP mentors
Agree to the FYP mentor terms of appointment.
Attend and participate in FYP mentor training during NSO (Fall Start) or WSO (Winter Start).
Enroll in and pass GS140 in Fall 2020 (Fall Start only).
Be on campus during for at least six blocks during the 2020-2021 academic year (which must include Blocks 1 & 2) and willing to work closely and closely with first year students during this period. Winter Start Mentors must be on campus for at least three blocks (including Blocks 5 & 6).
Serve as positive role model and point of contact for first year students throughout the duration of the 2020-2021 academic year
Remain in good academic and conduct standing throughout duration of appointment
