Emily Chan, Pedro de Araujo Named New Deans at CC

Colorado College President L. Song Richardson has announced the appointment of two new deans. Professor of Psychology Emily Chan has been named dean of the faculty, and Associate Professor of Economics Pedro de Araujo has been named dean of the college. They will assume their new roles on Jan. 3.

“Both Emily and Pedro bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and CC experience to these positions, and I am thrilled that they have accepted,” says President Richardson. The two new deans were selected after a process of nominations, input from members of the faculty and staff, and extensive interviews.

Chan, as dean of the faculty, will be responsible for faculty and academic endeavors, supporting faculty and academic staff as teachers and scholars. She is director of the Bridge Scholars Program and served as associate dean of academic programs and strategic initiatives from 2014-18.

De Araujo, as dean of the college, will be responsible for the student academic experience, which includes curricular and co-curricular matters, and other college-related business. Most recently de Araujo served as vice-provost of the college. De Araujo and Chan will collaborate on the curriculum.

“I am so grateful to Professor Claire Oberon Garcia, who has been tremendously impactful serving as dean of the faculty and acting provost,” says President Richardson. “She served during a particularly challenging time with the pandemic.” The college plans a gathering after Winter Break to celebrate and thank Garcia for her vision and service to the college.
