Grant for Community Scholars

Contingent and Community Scholars Writing Fellowship

The Hulbert Center for Southwest Studies welcomes applications for the Contingent and Community Scholars Writing Fellowship, which provide support for the work of community and contingent scholars and to honor their contributions to our understanding of the US Southwest, the US-Mexico Borderlands, northern Mexico, and Indigenous / Chicanx / Latinx populations of the region. The non-residential fellowships are for a full calendar year from fall 2022 through summer 2023, to support the scholarly, activist, and/or creative work of individuals working on issues pertinent to the US Southwest, the US-Mexico Borderlands, and northern Mexico. This fellowship is dedicated to supporting the work of individuals who are contingent scholars in academia (non-tenure track and adjunct faculty, advanced graduate students, and academic workers with limited access to writing support), as well as community scholars (broadly defined to include non-profit sector workers, activists, organizers, and community members). Individuals with ties to communities of the Southwest, the US-Mexico borderlands, northern Mexico, Indigenous and Chicanx / Latinx communities of the region are especially encouraged to apply. This fellowship is also intended to promote community building.
