About Ed Robson Arena

Colorado College's new Ed Robson Arena is a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art, sustainable sporting event venue that benefits both the college and the City of Colorado Springs. CC Tiger Hockey games are now played on campus, for the first time in the history of the program. The arena is one of four unique Colorado Springs venues designed to strengthen and diversify the economic impact of Pikes Peak region visitor attractions.

The Ed Robson Arena, named for Edward J. Robson, a 1954 CC graduate and former member of the hockey team, is a state-of-the-art, multipurpose, indoor, on-campus competition arena and home of the CC men’s ice hockey team. It enables the college hockey team to play games on campus for the first time since the program started in 1938.

As part of the City for Champions (C4C) initiative, the Ed Robson Arena is one of two new Colorado Springs downtown sports venues in close proximity to the U.S. Olympic Museum — one outdoor and one indoor — intended to attract visitors to Colorado Springs. Ed Robson Arena and Weidner Field, home of the Switchbacks soccer team, further solidify the city's vision as Olympic City USA, providing unique venues to host the growing momentum of a strong and vibrant tourism industry.

Ed Robson Arena is built on the college campus on the block bordered by Nevada Avenue and Cache La Poudre, Tejon, and Dale streets, and easily accessible by its student body, faculty, staff, and numerous alumni and fans who live nearby. It is two blocks east of another recent community collaboration, the alliance between the college and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the largest fine arts center between Denver and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The arena is unique in size and scope, and optimized for high-level athletic competition due to its comprehensive sports-medicine facility, flexible floor space, and experienced staff. It encompasses competition space, seating, locker and restrooms, concessions, storage, in-house TV production capability, and administrative space. It accommodates seating for approximately 3,400 attendees. The facility can host ice-based and multiple other sports. Most of the other athletics facilities on the Colorado College campus are northwest of the arena (the equivalent of two city blocks in distance). The college also is making these facilities available to the C4C initiative in conjunction with the Colorado Springs Sports Authority.

The arena is part of CC's master plan approved by the college's Board of Trustees in 2015. The multipurpose space offers a wealth of opportunities not only for Colorado College, but also for the Colorado Springs community and the larger Pikes Peak region. The venue will host regional, national, and international events in partnership with national governing bodies, further enhancing Colorado Springs' vision as Olympic City USA.

Funding for the arena comes from a $12 million gift by Edward J. Robson, other private donations, and through the C4C initiative awarded to the city through the state's Regional Tourism Act.

The arena, along with the alliance with the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, an operating agreement between KRCC and Colorado Public Radio, and CC's leadership role with Pikes Peak Community College, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and the United States Air Force Academy on the Quad Innovation Alliance, underscores the college's commitment to enriching the Colorado Springs community while providing further opportunities for CC students.

As with Colorado College's recently renovated Tutt Library, the largest carbon-neutral, net-zero energy academic library in the United States, the new arena furthers CC's commitment to sustainable design.

Colorado College handles all operations, scheduling, and maintenance for Ed Robson Arena. For information about visiting Robson Arena, open skates, stick & puck, ice time, or to book other special events in our additional event spaces, please visit edrobsonarena.com.
