Khaleel Gathers Joins Colorado College as Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Colorado College has hired Khaleel Gathers as its new vice president and chief information officer starting May 16. Gathers is presently associate vice president and chief information officer for information technology services at SUNY Buffalo State University.

Gathers will bring more than 30 years in the technology sector and 25 years of higher education experience to Colorado College’s ITS department. He is known for working across the campus to identify technology opportunities, efficiencies, and enhancements, and for his leadership in guiding strategic vision.

“Khaleel is a skilled ITS professional, team player, and visionary leader, and he brings wisdom, passion, and a commitment to excellence,” says Search Chair and Vice President for Enrollment Mark Hatch. “He impressed the committee with his experience, his insights, and his passion for the work that we do to support faculty, staff, and students alike.”

The VP/CIO will join Colorado College at a pivotal moment in the institution’s history as we approach the 150th academic year of the College. Reporting directly to President L. Song Richardson, Gathers will serve as a strategic partner on the president’s cabinet and position the college’s technology infrastructure and operations for a digitally focused future. Gathers also shared his enthusiasm about joining Colorado College.

“I am honored and excited to join the Colorado College community and work with the talented team of IT professionals to advance the college’s efforts in digital transformation,” says Gathers. “I look forward to collaborating with the college’s leadership team, faculty, and staff to provide innovative technology solutions that support student success and the college’s academic mission.”

Gathers says he wants to develop an enterprise architecture for a digitally focused, student-centered, multi-modal smart campus for CC.  He earned his B.S. in management information systems and his M.S. in higher education administration from SUNY Buffalo State.

The search for CC’s new chief information officer spanned nearly two years, when Vice President and CIO Brian Young passed away in 2021. Katharina Groves and Tulio Wolford provided valuable contributions to the cabinet and steady guidance to the ITS team in the interim.
