Bicycles

Always lock your bicycle with a kryptonite lock whenever you aren't using it. During winter and spring breaks, move your bicycle into your room. If you leave your bicycle in an unauthorized area on campus, campus safety will confiscate it. You can register your bicycle with the Colorado Springs Police Department by coming into the Campus Safety Office.

Campus Safe Ride Program

Student teams will escort or drive you across campus or within a six-block radius beyond campus every day of the academic year from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. (Sunday through Thursday) and 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. (Friday and Saturday). To contact the Safe Ride Program, call ext. 6340 or campus safety at ext. 6707.

Safety Tips

• Develop a buddy system. If you're out of town, leave a note with your roommate, a neighbor, and/or your resident assistant so your room will be protected and you may be reached in case of an emergency.
• Don't prop open exit/entrance doors. This is both a security and a fire hazard, and it jeopardizes everyone who resides in that building.
• Register your car during the registration period or at the parking manager's office. Register bicycles with campus safety, who shares this information with the Colorado Springs Police Department. Always lock your bicycle when you are not using it.
• Mark your valuables with an engraver, which can be obtained from the Worner Desk or the campus safety office. List all your valuables on a separate sheet of paper, including serial numbers, make, model, color, etc.
• Obtain personal property insurance. The college is not responsible for personal property theft or damage.
• Report all thefts, vandalism, and suspicious individuals and situations to campus safety immediately.

Self-Defense Classes

A local expert teaches interested students common sense self-defense techniques at least twice each semester. Classes are listed in the Catalyst, and advertised on the student digest. A class schedule is available through the sexual assault response coordinator's office.

Whistle Stop Program

All incoming CC students receive whistles as part of a nationwide campus safety program.

• Carry the whistle - in your hand, not in a backpack or handbag - when walking at night and/or walking alone.
• If someone is following you or acts suspiciously, blow your whistle. Campus safety, the campus community, and the Colorado Springs Police Department are trained to respond to whistle alerts.
• If you hear a whistle, call campus safety. After describing where you heard the whistle, you may gather a group to investigate.
