Recreational Equipment & Activities
Though the college encourages students to participate in recreational activities, sporting activities that may cause injury or damage are prohibited in and around campus facilities. These activities include, but are not limited to, throwing objects such as balls, snowballs, or Frisbees; golf; skateboarding, etc. Students involved in these activities in and around campus buildings may be liable for any injuries and/or damages.
This policy also applies to bicycles, rollerblades, roller-skates, skateboards, scooters, and any other recreational equipment. Students may not use these items inside buildings or chain them to entryways, doors, stairwells, banisters, or handicap ramps. Residents also are prohibited from using the above in locations on campus where they may cause damage; hinder the flow of traffic in or out of campus buildings; in specifically noted dismount areas; or where they may violate city fire codes. Campus security will remove items from areas where they are not permitted, hold them, and issue fines when students pick them up.
Residents are expected to store bicycles and other recreational equipment in designated bicycle stands/sheds or in their assigned rooms/apartments. There are lockers for rent outside of Mathias Hall. Students may contact the Mathias Front Desk for rental information. Equipment may not be left in hallways, lounges, or other public areas. Students can register their bicycles with campus security, who forwards that information on to the Colorado Springs Police Department. During breaks or when they are away from the residence hall for a long period of time, students are encouraged to store their bikes in their rooms.
