Join the Team

CC Mock Trial is a challenging, fun, and incredibly rewarding competitive communications team. As a member, you will have the opportunity to learn from and be coached by experienced legal professionals and CC Mock Trial alumni, gain a bunch of talented and intellectually curious teammates as friends, and travel around the nation all throughout the year!

No experience is required to join. Prior involvement in mock trial is great, but certainly not necessary; you will learn the ropes during tryouts and beyond. You don't have to want to be a lawyer either! If you're interested in acting, improv, speech and debate, or just want to expand your horizons or be on a dedicated competitive team, you should consider joining. Mock trial is a sizeable commitment, but it's more than worth it!

Get Started

You can find us here:

  •  Monday, August 28th, 12-2 @ Worner Campus Center
  •  Wednesday, August 30th, 2-4 @ East Campus Quad
  •  Thursday, August 31st, 4:30-6:30 @ Worner Campus Center

We will have booths at these locations and times where you can meet us, ask questions, and join our mailing list where we will send updates about upcoming events.

We will hold an interest meeting on September 4th (2023) where we will explain the basics of mock trial, detail the commitments of the tryout process and general team membership, and answer any related questions you have. At the interest meeting, you will be given a tryout commitment letter to read through before the first official practice on September 7th .

Tryout Process

At the end of the September 7th practice, the tryout commitment letter is due. If you decide that mock trial isn't for you, no worries! If you choose to sign the tryout letter, you are committed to participating for the entirety of the tryout process, but you are NOT committed to the team for the whole year.

Tryouts will last for about 3 weeks. During this time, you will be placed on one of a few teams. New members will be split evenly amongst returning members, and each team will prepare one side of a mini-case so you can learn from our coaches and returning members as you go. At the end of these 3 weeks, there will be a short head-to-head competition among teams to showcase your work!

Those who are invited to join the official team will be given a team commitment letter. The team commitment letter IS binding and requires you to be a participating member of the CC Mock Trial Team for the duration of the year

**Please note: there will only be one tryout period offered at the beginning of each year. If you do not attend the tryout, you will not be able to join the team until the following year.**

Team Placements

After you have committed to being a part of CC Mock Trial you will be assigned to an "unstacked" team, meaning that it will be diverse in terms of skill level and experience. This allows newer members to spend months learning from older, more experienced teammates. Before winter break, everyone will be re-evaluated and placed on the A or B team based on their performance in the first semester. We will then compete on those "stacked" teams for the rest of the season!
