The Department of French & Francophone Studies, in partnership with the Alliance Française-Nice Côte d'Azur in Nice, France, offers a semester in France on the block plan, called "CC in France." Immerse yourself in the French language and experience diverse Francophone cultures in Nice, France.
Students can choose from a full-semester option (4 courses, 4 blocks) or can opt for either blocks 5-6 (French language study in Nice) or blocks 7-8 (CC Faculty-led courses on French & Francophone cultures).
Prerequisites: Students should have completed FR101 at CC or have an equivalent placement score to join blocks 5-6 in Nice, and FR201 or higher (or equivalent placement score) for blocks 7-8.
Nice & France Basics
The CC in France program begins with CC's Half-block and the first 2 blocks of Spring (5-6) in Nice, a city of approximately 350,000 located on the famous Côte d'Azur or French Riviera. With a Mediterranean climate and its location between the sea and the Alpes, it is a perfect location to spend the winter months of our Spring semester. Students who enroll in the full semester program will spend 2 blocks living with families in Nice and studying at the Alliance Française-Nice Côte d'Azur, a centrally located campus complete with its own café/restaurant and media center.
Students who continue on or who join the program for Blocks 7-8 will travel with CC faculty from the French and Francophone Studies program. For each course the faculty select sites that enhance the educational value of the program and tie into the course subject matter. In 2027, Block 7 will focus on southern France, while Block 8 will focus on Immigration, Race, and Identity in France with travel to Tours and Paris included in the program itinerary.
WILL I NEED A VISA FOR THIS PROGRAM?
All students in the full 4-block semester program who are not EU citizens will need a long-term student visa. You should receive an acceptance letter from the Af-Nice by October 15, and you will need to upload this letter as part of your application materials. Since the application process for a student visa can take a great deal of time, students are encouraged to begin as soon as they receive the letter from the Alliance Française.
Students who are US citizens do not need a visa for either of the 2-block options. However, they must leave the EU within 90 days of their arrival.
International students should investigate if citizens of their home country will need a visa to enter France. They can then contact the Center for Global Education & Field Study for assistance with the documentation necessary for their visa, and if they have questions about the process.

Course Information
Block 5-6: FR299: French Language Study Abroad
Block 7: FR319 Topics in French Culture: Artists & Artisans of the South of France
Taught in French by Prof. Alistaire Tallent
In this course we will explore Provence and the Côte d’Azur as sites of artistic community and creative energy. What is it about the climate, landscape, and cultures of Southern France that attracted artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Cézanne, and Renoir? How do the region’s features influence the people making local crafts and cuisines today, blending old traditions with new technologies? Readings and classwork will prepare students for visits to museums, workshops, and historic sites in and around Nice. Those excursions will in turn inspire group discussions for a deeper understanding of the French Riviera.
Block 8: FR320 Topics in Francophone Culture: Immigration, Race & National Identity in France
COLLEGE REQUIREMENTS
FRENCH LANGUAGE PREREQUISITE
The prerequisite for Blocks 7 & 8 is FR201 or an equivalent placement test score. For Blocks 5 & 6 the prerequisite is FR101 or an equivalent placement test score.
Of course, since you will be living with a French family, and all the courses will be conducted in French, we strongly encourage you to take more classes in French (including the adjunct maintenance courses) before you depart. The more French you can speak before you go, the more you’ll get out of the experience!

Program Housing
Applications for Spring 2027 are OPEN until October 1.
Applications for the Spring 2027 CC in France Program are officially open through October 1, 2026.
Students may inquire about a possible late application after that date, however the program may not be accepting late applications this year.
The Fall 2027 CC in France program will open its application cycle in November, 2026 with Applications due by October 1, 2027.
WHAT IF I NEED TO WITHDRAW MY APPLICATION?
As with all CC-led study away programs, the CC half- or full-semester program has a withdrawal deadline. For Spring programs, this deadline is November 1st. Students who withdraw prior to the deadline will assess no program fees.
A late withdrawal after the deadline can produce significant program fees in addition to the funds needed to complete the semester on campus. These fees are billed for all shared and non-refundable costs expended on behalf of the student and not recuperable by Colorado College. Voluntary withdrawal from a program close to the departure date or after the program has commenced can produce the following charges:
- Withdrawal after November 1st for any Spring CC Semester Away (Blocks 5-8) produces a charge of $4,000. This increases to $15,000 after December 15th.
- Withdrawal after November 1st for any Spring CC Half-Semester Away (Blocks 5&6 or Blocks 7&8) produces a charge of $2,500. This increases to $7,000 after December 15th.
CC Financial Aid cannot cover these fees as all aid reverts to the student’s on campus costs when they withdraw from the program.

Finances for the Half-Semester Options
BILLING
When a student participates in a CC Half-Semester (two-block) program, the tuition remains the same as the standard CC tuition for that semester, and the program fee charge varies, based on the student's on-campus housing assignment and meal plan choice for that semester.
Students with Fall on-campus housing & standard meal plan: No program fee
Students with Fall on-campus housing & apartment meal plan: $1,112 program fee.
Students with Fall on-campus housing & no meal plan: $1,363 program fee.
Students living off-campus for Fall Semester: $2,805 program fee
AIRFARE
FINANCIAL AID
Your aid award for the year includes the tuition and any standard aid towards housing & meal plans for the fall semester. This aid will be applied to the costs of the blocks in France. See our Semester Billing and Aid page for more details.Finances for the Full Semester Option
BILLING
For students who opt for a CC Semester Off-Campus (full semester, 4 blocks), the tuition remains the same as the standard CC tuition for that semester, and a program fee is charged to cover room & board, RT airfare, field trips, international health & emergency insurance, and the like.
This program fee is charged in lieu of any CC on-campus housing placement and meal plan. The program fee is never larger than the fee for on-campus housing and meal plan, and in some cases may be less than the on-campus room & board charges. Students on a semester away will not have housing assigned or charged for the semester. The fee covers room & board expense for the blocks abroad, round trip airfare, all program field trips, and international health & emergency insurance.
AIRFARE
Reasonable round-trip airfare between Colorado and your program destination and back is always covered for every CC Semester and Half-Semester abroad, and students will be able to book that covered airfare through our partnership with ScholarTrip, once you are accepted to the program and confirm your participation spot.
FINANCIAL AID
Students will receive their standard aid towards tuition and room/board expenses for the semester away as if they were on campus. This aid is applied to the off-campus semester. See our Semester Billing and Aid page for more details.Contacts

Spring 2028 CC In France Program
Initial details on the 2028 Spring CC in France Program, including course offerings and college requirement fulfillment, will be released during the 2026 Fall Semester, with applications going live on Summit in November of 2026.
Early applications for either of the 2-block, or the full 4-block program are recommended. All applications should be completed on Summit no later than October 1, 2027.
