Confidentiality

All mental health services, including counseling, psychotherapy, medication review, group counseling, couples counseling, assessments and evaluations, provided at the Counseling Center are considered confidential and protected by both state and federal confidentiality laws. No records of the counseling center are part of a student's regular college record. No information may be released to a third party without the student's consent. There are exceptions to these laws, which should be discussed with your counselor. These laws include the federal law called HIPAA and the Colorado Mental Health laws and regulations.

When information needs to be released, the client may sign a Release of Information form (ROI) which designates to whom the information is to be released and for what purpose. There are certain conditions where the counselors are mandated to release information, please talk to your counselor about these exceptions.

You can access a copy of the Release of Information form on the Counseling Center Website under Forms.
