The Lofgren Family Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2011 after the tragic deaths of Parker Lofgren ’91, his wife Caroline, and their children, Owen and Sophie, in a carbon monoxide accident during Thanksgiving weekend 2008 in Aspen, Colorado. At the Class of 1991’s 20th reunion, we created the Lofgren Family Memorial Fund. This endowed fund provides funding in perpetuity to support financial aid. During academic year 2021-22, the Lofgren fund provided $24,364 in scholarship support. Since its inception, six deserving Colorado College students have received Lofgren awards.

For our 30th reunion in 2021, friends and family of the Lofgrens issued a new challenge to fully fund the scholarship at Colorado College and to continue advocating for carbon monoxide safety to prevent future tragedies. This new goal follows the extensive efforts of the Rittenour, Lofgren and Feuerbach families to increase national awareness of the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning. These families expanded and created legislation in various states that will forever stand as a legacy to the Lofgren family. In Colorado, The Lofgren and Johnson Families Carbon Monoxide Safety Act was signed into law by Governor Ritter in February of 2009.

The fundraising goal is to raise an additional $1 million in Lofgren scholarship dollars. The Lofgren fund was part of Colorado College’s priority to raise $100 million for scholarship and to reach 50% alumni participation during CC’s Building on Originality Campaign. We need your help to raise $500,000 for the Lofgren Fund. Every dollar will be matched by the Hastings Family Foundation dollar-for-dollar for a combined commitment of $1,000,000. Please join us with a donation in memory of a dear classmate, Parker Lofgren and his family. Every dollar counts towards the match and is appreciated.
