The Stroud Scholars Program

Stroud Scholars is a free, three-year college prep program. The program helps motivated high school students get ready for college by offering academic support, mentoring, and guidance through the college admissions and financial aid process.

Starting the summer after 9th grade, students spend two to three weeks each summer at Colorado College. They build skills in writing and math, explore college planning, and gain tools to succeed in college and beyond. The program also includes support during the school year through workshops and mentoring.

 

What Does the Program Offer? 

✔  A free, three-year summer program starting after 9th grade.

✔  2–3 weeks (Monday-Friday) each summer on Colorado College’s campus. 

✔  Live on campus during the week as a rising senior

✔  Take two key college prep courses: Quantitative Reasoning and Writing/Composition. 

✔  Join fun and engaging afternoon workshops and enrichment activities

✔  Get year-round support for you and your family on college admissions and financial aid processes.

✔  Receive mentorship from college students, staff, and professors.

  Students who complete the program and fulfill all requirements earn guaranteed admission to Colorado College, along with a financial aid package that meets full demonstrated need.

Pre-Arrival Information

Move In

If you are a rising senior, you will move in to the residence hall between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on July 5.

If you are a rising junior participating in the final residential week on campus, you will move in to the residence hall between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on July 19. 

Students are required to complete the Housing Agreement form prior to the program's start on July 6th. If you do not complete this form, you will NOT be allowed to check into your residence hall.

Roommates will be assigned prior to move in and you will be paired with someone of the same gender identification as you. 

Keys and Gold Card

All Stroud Students will use their Gold Card to purchase meals, scan into their residence hall, and more. If you do not have your gold card from past years, please contact us right away so we can print you a new one. 

There is a $25 lost Gold Card fee and a $75 lost key fee. 

Move-Out

Move-out for Stroud students will be after class ends, at 2:30 p.m. on July 24. Students will have until 5 p.m. to be fully moved out.

Communication

GroupMe will be used for all official communication with students on and off campus throughout the duration of the program in July. You are expected to regularly check your GroupMe for important information, schedules, locations for activities, etc. 

Classes

Classes will be Monday-Friday with Quantitative Reasoning from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Writing from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Rising seniors will be taking the following courses:

  • QR with Professor Wilson and Professor Vollmuth in the Tutt Science Building, Room 312.
  • Writing with Professor Lessig and Professor Regan in Tutt Library, Room 327. 

Rising juniors will be taking the following courses:

  • QR with Professor Gamboa and Professor Bell in the Tutt Science Building, Room 108
  • Writing with Professor Alvarado and Professor Lo in Tutt Library, Room 317

Expectations

At the start of your participation in the Stroud program, you signed documents such as a Pathfinder Agreement, a general release, and handbook, etc. As you return for the program this summer, please be reminded of your agreement to abide by all rules, adhere to the student code of conduct, and represent yourself and your school in the best way possible. Non-adherence to any of the aforementioned policies or codes may result in removal from the program or disciplinary action. 

Campus Resources

Charles L. Tutt Library is a hub for research, learning, and intellectual community, providing welcoming and inclusive space for students to learn, grow, and thrive at Colorado College.

Accessibility Resources works with students to plan individualized support services, including reasonable accommodations that facilitate access to learning, living, and other experiences at CC. 

The Wellness Resource Center (WRC) serves as a hub for health promotion work on campus. Students are able to utilize the WRC in the student center to de-stress or find additional support. The WRC is located in the Yalich Student Services Building Room 230.

The Colorado College Campus safety team works 24 hours a day to keep our students safe. You may see them walking around campus — don't hesitate to say hello!

Meals will be served in Rastall Café, an all-you-care-to-eat dining facility with a rotating menu of dishes with vegan, vegetarian, and made without gluten-containing ingredient options.

Need a snack? Craving a coffee during your mid-class break? Look no further! Colorado Coffee offers a variety of cafe items such as coffee, espresso, bagels, yerba matte, muffins, and more!

The center of athletic life on campus, our sports center has a fully equipped weight room, basketball courts, climbing wall and pool. We also have the Tiger Trail running trail and Tennis Courts rights behind the El Pomar Sports Center.

Summer hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Packing List

Stroud students will be residing in Loomis Hall. Each room includes:

  • Bed with linens (includes pillow/pillow case, sheets, light comforter, bed spread, and towel)
  • Desk and chair
  • Dresser
  • Wireless internet
  • Mini Fridge and microwave
  • Fan

For grocery needs, students can go to the CC store or go to a local grocery store accompanied by our van certified Residential Advisors.

  • Hat with a brim- Baseball cap or sunhat
  • Laundry bag and detergent (this can also be purchased on a grocery store trip with our Residential Advisors)

If you do not have access to a laptop, one can be rented through Tutt Library! Computers are also available for use during open library hours.

Colorado College will provide gear at no charge for climbing, art classes, volleyball, basketball, and yoga.
