Classes of 1967, 1968, and 1969 Reunion Giving

Brought to you by your 55th Reunion Volunteer Committee

Overall Goal: Document your Barnes Legacy Society Gifts

Many of us have verbally agreed to include Colorado College in our estate plans but have not documented your intent with the College. Documenting your estate plans with the College ensures that the kind of impact you would like to have with your philanthropic support is seen through.

Additionally, new legislation now allows for a one-time distribution from an IRA (QCD) to be used to create a life income gift. The most common life income gifts are charitable gift annuities (CGAs), charitable remainder unitrusts (CRTs), or charitable annuity trusts (CRATs). This new type of QCD is limited to a one-time maximum transfer of $50,000 to a qualified CRT, or in exchange with a charity for a CGA. Charitable gift annuities are an impactful way to advance CC’s mission, while enabling you to draw income in your lifetime.

This type of gift will reduce the value of your IRA, therefore reducing your future required mandatory distributions (RMDs), as they will be based on the lower value. Using a distribution from your IRA to create an annuity is a savvy way to diversify your holdings and lock in a great return. As always, we recommend that you consult a qualified advisor before making a new gift commitment.

*The asterisks below indicate alumni who have finalized/fully documented thier intentions with the college.

The Barnes Legacy Society thanks, honors, and recognizes all individuals who have generously chosen to include Colorado College in their estate plans or who have established life-income gifts.

The Barnes Legacy Society recognizes donors who have made provisions for Colorado College through their estate plans. The society is named for Chemistry Professor Otis A. Barnes and his wife, Margaret Tyson Barnes ’27, in recognition of their estate plan. We invite you to join the Barnes Legacy Society by sharing your intentions with us. In addition to the individuals listed, seven of your classmates and friends prefer to remain anonymous members. If we have inadvertently omitted your name from this list or if you would like your name listed differently, please contact us at ccgiftplanning@coloradocollege.edu

Thank you to all those who have donated to CC within this calendar year as well!
Donor rolls and gift receipts may be delayed during the next few months as we transition to our new system.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!
