Denver - Career Catalyst Block- Liberal Arts and Pediatric Medicine with Children's Hospital Colorado
BLOCK 8 - CCB - Children's Hospital Colorado
GS222: Rethinking the pediatric workforce: Interrogating the future of medicine through liberal arts thinking
Denver, Colorado
The medical infrastructure is vast and complex, calling on the expertise of many fields and professionals to provide high-quality care. This Career Catalyst Block challenges students to broaden their understanding of what it means to work in health care and the many ways professionals contribute to the health and well-being of children and families. Engaging on-site with Children’s Hospital Colorado professionals across administrative, patient family services and clinical departments, students will examine how different roles help form pediatric care. Through reflections, discussions, collaborative problem solving, and interdisciplinary inquiry, students will use these perspectives to develop a strategic plan for attracting and preparing the next generation of pediatric health professionals.
Dr. Eryn Murphy: Assistant Professor, Human Biology and Kinesiology
This class….
- is not a class about healthcare. It is a class about the perspectives, skills, and experiences that make health care possible.
- will be spending weeks 2 and 3 at the Anschutz Medical Campus.
- could be an excellent opportunity for Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors to explore career paths that are health-care adjacent, or for health-care oriented students to expand their understanding of what “being in health care” means.
- will value creative, interdisciplinary, and liberal-arts thinking. There isn’t a target major/minor on campus, in fact we would love to have students from all over representing CC on this block.
