Overview

The major is divided into three Areas of Emphasis: Humanities, Social Science, and Expressive Culture. Majors will be immersed in the inter- or multi-disciplinary ethos of Africana Studies by being required to declare their course of study across at least two of the Areas of Emphasis to complete the major. This is accomplished by apportioning the electives amongst the Areas of Emphasis, and advisors in the program will establish an advising practice that helps students develop a coherent narrative for their study that will culminate in a Senior Thesis/Project.
