The Henry Luce Foundation Scholarship

 


Description

The Henry Luce Foundation provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia and welcomes applications from college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals in a variety of fields who have had limited exposure to Asia. Candidates must not have reached 30 years old by July 1 of the year they enter the program.

Luce Scholars have backgrounds in virtually any field-other Asian studies-including medicine, the arts, business, law, science, environmental studies, and journalism. Placements can be made in the following countries in East and Southeast Asia: Cambodia, China and Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philipines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.


Award

Candidates are nominated by 75 colleges and university. Fifteen to 18 Luce Scholars are named each year.

Scholars are fully supported for the 13-month "program year" with:
  • a monthly stipend
  • housing and cost of living allowances
  • medical and travel insurance
  • subsidy for shipment of personal belongings
