PS203: Comparing Vibrant Democracies in Southern Africa
Gabarone, Botswana & Cape Town, South Africa
Last Offered in Fall 2025
Discover the vibrant democracies of South Africa and Botswana, two countries shaped by distinct political journeys. Join us to compare the political and social systems of both countries to understand their respective achievements and ongoing challenges. The first half of the block, we will be based in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital, and the second half in Cape Town, South Africa. Plan to meet with parliamentarians, human rights advocates, and public officials, and engage with members of civil society. We’ll visit sites of cultural and political significance, including national legislatures, areas of ecological importance, and formal and informal economic outlets. From vibrant capitals to grassroots movements, this program is your chance to experience Southern Africa’s diverse landscapes and connect with its changemakers.
