EV209 Ecology and Environment - Costa Rica

EV209: Ecology & the Environment

Monteverde & La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Last Offered in Fall 2025
We will study Ecology in the context of one of the most beautiful and biodiverse ecosystems on the planet: the rainforests and cloud forests in the Tilran Mountains of Costa Rica. The class will be taught in two remote locations in field stations 1-2 hours walk to the nearest village. We will be immersed in primary forests with giant Mahogany trees, orchids, bromeliads, morpho butterflies, rain frogs, monkeys, tarantulas, army and leaf cutter ants, and super cool snakes. We will also study the relationship between people and the rainforest and visit coffee farms and other tropical agriculture as well as an ecotourist location with some optional ziplining. The class satisfies both EV and OBE major requirements.
