Breakout Sessions

Building your Personal Board of Directors

This workshop will dive into Tara Yosso’s community cultural wealth model to explore the strengths of students that are not always highlighted but are still important to navigating college life. We will also explore the concept of a “personal board of directors” which is a term coined by Priscilla Claman from the Harvard Business Review that encourages us to think about our mentors as “board members” in our professional and academic lives. This interactive session will help you strategize to build a supportive network as you enter your second year at CC!

Chandler Bing-O: Come make Friends!

Want to set goals for the upcoming semester but unsure where to start? Join the Career Center for a fun game of bingo and making connections with your peers. We’ll explore the difference between professional and personal goals, the importance of goal setting, and how to build relationships with new people. Learn what campus and career resources ‘will be there for you’ while making new friends!

Developing a Stress Mindset

How we think about the things that create stress in our lives impacts our ability to cope with those stresses. In this interactive workshop, we’ll practice strategies for shifting thinking in order to better manage life stresses.

Forging a Path at CC and Beyond

The Advising Hub will facilitate an activity that will help assist with identifying strengths and interests. This will help students narrow down their choice of major and which classes to focus on moving forward.

Global Adventuring Game

Come play the Global Adventuring Game to explore and clarify which international & off-campus study experiences offered to you through CC are best for you to pursue. In this fun and interactive game session, you will map out your values and skills, academic goals, language proficiency, locations of interest, and your “wild cards” – and you will cross the finish line knowing which program (or multiple programs!) are the best fit for your study abroad path, and how to apply and make it happen! Led by the Center for Global Education & Field Study.

Writing your Personal Mission Statement

Who are you becoming and what is your purpose in life? In this workshop, you’ll write a personal mission statement -- one that summarizes who you want to be in the world and the impact you want to make. Personal mission statements serve to guide and inspire you, as well as to set boundaries. Say “yes” to those things that fit within that mission and “no” to those that don’t serve that mission! Personal mission statements also work for you by serving as your “elevator pitch” for networking, job interviews, and applications for opportunities. We’ll do a guided workshop in writing these statements and give you the opportunity to practice and workshop them with peers.
