Professor Corey Hutchins, co-director of the Colorado College Journalism Institute, is set to lead a dynamic 2 1/2-week Pre-College course for high school students as part of the Summer Pre-College Program offered by Colorado College in 2024.

His "Writing the News" course aims to equip students with essential skills in gathering and crafting information into compelling and engaging narratives. His class will focus on instilling an understanding of how different kinds of writing can operate within their own guidelines, ethics, structure, style, and form. Emphasizing the importance of local news, students will delve into the various ways news originates and learn to navigate the complexities of the digital landscape, honing their ability to discern accurate information amidst the prevalence of misinformation. Moreover, students will explore initiatives dedicated to promoting equity in local news—an essential aspect of responsible journalism.
