Phyllis Hanyang Zhong is a researcher with a keen interest in Chinese art history and transcultural studies. Her work primarily focuses on twentieth-century Chinese painting, post-World War II Sino-American relations, and feminist and gender studies. She is also an experienced art specialist and media professional with a demonstrated history of working in art and cultural institutes, as well as the media industry. Phyllis has published art reviews and articles in T Magazine, Wallpaper, Artnet News, among others. Additionally, she has contributed to several international exhibitions, including the 58th Venice Biennale and “Cosmopolis #2” at the Centre Pompidou. She maintains affiliations with art and research institutions such as the Palace Museum in Beijing and the Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften in Heidelberg.

Furthermore, Phyllis co-founded a podcast titled "Earthly Heavenly" (大俗小雅), which primarily focuses on arts and culture. The podcast has garnered over 18 million plays and boasts a community of around 82,000 listeners. Through this medium, she collaborates with various art entities, including the West Bund Museum in Shanghai and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The podcast also aims to shed light on topics such as feminist art history. For instance, its inaugural episode in 2022, titled “I’m Earthly, I’m Heavenly: Women Artists Reborn from Darkness,” celebrated the life stories of renowned female artists like Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) and Artemisia Gentileschi (1593–1652/1653).
