Tim Stombaugh is a musical and versatile percussionist who excels in several genres. In his formative years as a professional, he lived in Florida where he gained notoriety while attending the University of North Florida. During his time as a jazz drum set student, Tim was quickly brought into the fold to perform and record with UNF faculty members such as Kevin Bales, Barry Greene, Bill Prince and Bunky Green. His reputation earned him recommendations to ultimately perform with internationally renowned jazz artists such as Conrad Herwig and Ernie Watts. During this time, he also poured himself into the local Jacksonville music scene where he simultaneously established himself as a top-call percussionist in the North Florida region, touring and performing on drum set with Alligator Records recording artists JJ Grey and Mofro and NYC piano crooner Loston Harris in addition to getting calls to sub for Butch Miles in the legendary Count Basie Orchestra. As a percussionist, he performed for touring productions of the Broadway musicals “The Full Monty” and “42nd Street.” As an educator, Tim directed the jazz band for St. Johns Country Day School and taught private percussion lessons at The Bolles School and for a private Christian arts academy.
In 2005, Tim won a position as a percussionist with one of the only two premier military bands in The United States Air Force, The US Air Force Academy Band. During his career in the military, Tim has travelled the world performing in a wide variety of ensembles, from chamber groups to big bands, pop/rock and country groups, and large ceremonial groups and concert bands. He has performed on several continents including North America, Europe, Africa and Asia in support of troop morale, diplomatic and humanitarian missions.
