Arya Rani is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Film and Media Studies department. Her research and teaching interests include global cinema, visual anthropology, and moving image archival studies. Her first book project Blink-and-you-will-miss-it: Aesthetics and Politics of B-roll in Cinemaintroduces B-roll as a productive methodology to read films across genres, regions, and time periods. Rani’s writings have appeared in peer-reviewed anthologies by publications such as Aren’t you Bojack Horseman? Critical Essays on the Netflix Series(McFarland Books, 2024) and The Routledge Handbook of Indian Indie Cinema(Routledge, 2025) and journals such as New Review of Film and Television Studies. She holds a PhD in Visual and Performing Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas, where she was the Dean’s Teaching Fellow in 2024-25. Beyond her scholarly work, she also makes experimental video essays and diary films, reflecting on selfhood and otherness. At CC, Arya Rani offers introductory film studies courses as well as topic courses such as Cinematic Landscapes and Transnational Women’s Cinema.
