Madi Powell is a filmmaker and writer currently serving as the Technical Director for Film and Media studies at Colorado College. They offer areas of expertise in filmmaking and practical learning for all filmmaking courses within the department. Madi considers herself a jack of all trades when it comes to filmmaking. Her specialties include documentary filmmaking techniques, low budget/indie filmmaking, and innovative filmmaking practices.
Areas of filmmaking that personally inspire Madi are the expression and representation of marginalized groups within the horror genre. In her work, she has explored social ostracism towards queer women in spaces and representing trauma within the body that these systems cause. She depicts these themes on the screen through surreal and horrific physical manifestations.
