Charlotte Gabrielsen is a landscape ecologist who uses geospatial modeling and field-based approaches to examine how landscape patterns and ecological processes affect biodiversity, ecosystem function, and human dimensions across spatial and temporal scales.

Charlotte’s research explores: (1) the influence of climate and human land use on landscape patterns and processes; (2) the resulting effects on biological diversity across scales; and (3) how geospatial insights can inform conservation and management planning. She is committed to advancing interdisciplinary and applied research. In recent work, Charlotte is examining climate effects on wetland spatial and temporal dynamics in the US Northern Great Plains and how projected climate change will affect landscape connectivity and species movements in Alaska and the Yukon. Charlotte also conducts research which combines remote sensing with field survey and molecular detection (eDNA) approaches to explore the effects of wetland spatiotemporal dynamics on amphibian diversity and gene flow. Across projects, Charlotte is passionate about supporting collaborative efforts to use geospatial techniques and ecological theory to inform conservation planning, and she frequently collaborates with governmental, non-profit, and tribal stakeholders in research.

Charlotte teaches courses in the environmental and geospatial sciences, including Introduction to Global Climate Change, Ecology, Environmental Geographic Information Systems, and Landscape Ecology. Furthermore, she is passionate about training and supporting motivated students, and is excited to work in a program where teaching and research are closely connected.
