Dagny Rayn Chika is a fiber artist, writer, and educator from the Pacific Northwest exploring the expansive relationship between text and textile. She creates objects that utilize both geometry and fluidity to invoke new embodied relationships to existing written ideas: her work thus operates in reciprocal dialogue with found literature and poetry, as well as with their own memoiristic writing. 

They found themselves engrossed in fiber art first through the window of craft: Chika was taught to knit by her best friends while living off-grid in a tiny house together. When the generator would (often) go out, they would all sit on the floor of the tiny house and knit together by candlelight.

Since learning how to knit in that small house tucked in the far northwest corner of Washington state, Chika’s fiber work has been shown in spaces including Anderson Ranch Arts Center, (Snowmass, Colorado), Common Area Maintenance (Seattle, Washington), and Woman Made Gallery (Chicago, Illinois). Her visual work and writing have been published online and in print, including most recently The Kingfisher Magazine and Subo Art Magazine. They hold an MFA in Fibers and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
