Commencement 2012

Matthew Bakker, visiting instructor in sociology will be giving the baccalaureate address, "Dare to Imagine Things Differently," and Daniel Marion will be this year's senior class commencement speaker.

Parents, family, and friends,

Colorado College welcomes you to Commencement weekend. Commencement is on Monday morning, May 21, at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony is followed by a reception hosted by President Tiefenthaler’s office, ending by 1 p.m. (Tickets are not required for Commencement. We provide open seating, with room for your entire group.)  The Commencement speaker will be CC alumna, songwriter, and musician, Abigail Washburn '99.

Colorado College Commencement weekend festivities traditionally begin with the Commencement Reception and Dance on Saturday evening, May 19, 2012.  All family members are welcome to attend this very fun evening. We hope that you will plan to join us. You can purchase dance tickets at OurCC.

Sunday morning at 10 a.m. plan to attend the parent presentation by Susan Ashley, dean of the college, and Neal Baer '78, trustee, titled "Someday it will be 2037...and why having a CC liberal arts education will still matter to your adult child." The students need to be on campus for the class photo at 2 p.m. and the Baccalaureate service is at 3 p.m.  Students will select a favorite faculty member to give an inspirational speech at Baccalaureate, and all students and family members are encouraged to attend.  Department open houses are at 4 p.m.

Reserve your room for Commencement weekend. 

  • Colorado College offers on-campus housing for families of graduating seniors during Commencement weekend.
  • If you prefer a hotel setting, the host hotel is the Antlers Hilton.

Grads: Honors Convocation. All students are welcome. Lunch by invitation only.

Wednesday, May 16

Block 8 ends.

Thursday, May 17

Grads: pick up cap, gown and Baccalaureate tickets at the Bookstore, 12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Pick up pre-ordered dance tickets at the Tutt Alumni House, 1205 N. Cascade Ave. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a cupcake with us.

Friday, May 18

Grads: Pick up cap, gown, and Baccalaureate tickets at the Bookstore, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m..

Commencement Rehearsal (mandatory). Meet in front of Palmer Hall. 11 a.m. 
Pick up dance tickets at the Tutt Alumni House, 1205 N. Cascade Ave. Enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert with us, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. and noon - 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 19

Formal Portraits by Ted Mehl at A Better Image Photography,  9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Worner Campus Center.  No appointment necessary.  Bring your cap and gown.  Questions: Ted Mehl - 719-266-0520

Grads:, Pick up cap, gown, and Baccalaureate tickets at the Bookstore, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m..

Grads and family: Commencement Dance at Antlers Hilton Hotel. Tickets required for family members, seniors only free with ticket. Reception, 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Dance, 9 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Sunday, May 20

Grads: Class photo on Palmer steps. Wear cap and gown. 2 p.m.

Grads and family members: Baccalaureate, Shove Chapel, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets required. Grads and two family members will be admitted to Shove Chapel. Other family members may watch the service live in the Armstrong Hall Theater. (Baccalaureate is an inspirational speech given by a favorite professor chosen by the senior class.)
Grads and family members: Department receptions 4 p.m.

Monday, May 21

Grads: Assemble in Palmer Hall, 7:15 a.m.

Commencement Ceremony, 8:30 a.m., Armstrong Quad. Open seating, tickets are not issued. (Please note that weather conditions may move the ceremony to the World Arena; start time will be later.)
Reception with President Tiefenthaler following the ceremony on Cutler Quad. Festivities end by 1 p.m.
Grads: Return cap and gown to the Bookstore during business hours.

Tuesday, May 22

Grads: Move out of residence halls by noon.
