Eight games into the season, the hockey team found itself ranked No. 1 in the national polls despite a rash of injuries that kept as many as six regulars out of the lineup during the first month. CC got off to a 7-1 start, including a 3-2 overtime victory against the University of Maine in the IceBreaker Invitational and a 1-0 triumph over Ohio State a week later.

Left wing Brett Sterling ’06, one of five Tigers to earn WCHA Player of the Week honors during October, also was named CSTV/Hockey Commissioners Association National Player of the Month after fueling a series sweep at Minnesota State University Oct. 28 and 29.
