Peter Cooper first moved to Colorado in 1987 to begin his tenure as Principal Timpanist of the Colorado Springs Symphony/Philharmonic. Previously, he was Principal Percussionist and Timpanist of the Mexico City Philharmonic, after receiving his BM at the Oberlin Conservatory and his MM at The Juilliard School, studying with Michael Rosen, Roland Kohloff and Buster Bailey. Since being in Colorado, Mr. Cooper has assumed the position of Percussion Instructor at Colorado College, and has held various positions with the Central City Opera Orchestra since 1988. He is also a tenured member of the orchestras of Opera Colorado and the Colorado Ballet, as well as being the percussionist of the Boulder Brass, and a founding member of The Marimba Trio. Peter free-lances as well as contracts for many organizations along the Front Range, including Denver's Inside the Orchestra youth programs and Colorado College. He enjoys spending time with his family.
