Armin Wishard

Professor

Armin Wishard is a native of Upper Austria and has been at Colorado College since 1970. He attended secondary schools in Austria as well as in the former German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic.

He is the author of a number of language textbooks, monographs on the medieval epic Salman und Morolf and a book-length article concerning the correspondence between Thomas Mann and Hans Rosenhaupt, as well as numerous articles on German literature and teaching methodology. His main scholarly interests are medieval literature, Romantic German literature, and the former German Democratic Republic.

Activities & Interests

In his free time, he enjoys flying gliders in the Rocky Mountains or flying the country in his Cessna Skylane. He is also a sometime golfer in the summer and downhill skier in the winter. He enjoys traveling the world and continues to spend considerable time in Europe teaching in the College's Study Abroad Program at the University of Lüneburg, visiting friends and relatives, or pursuing scholarly interests.

    He received his BA and MA from the University of California at Riverside (1965 and 1967), and his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 1970 with a dissertation on oral formulaic composition features in the medieval German "Spielmannsepik."
