Deb Ayers stopped by the alumni office while attending
the Junior Olympics for fencing with her godson. She has taught art in
the public schools for 29 years and is currently teaching at John Fuller
School in North Conway, N.H. • Michael King, senior
project scientist for NASA's Earth Observing System, was elected to the
National Academy of Engineering. Michael is one of only 16 active or retired
NASA employees to be elected to the NAE. • Charlie Roudabush
proudly reports that his daughters, Claire Anne and Kaitlin Elise, had
multiple starring roles in the Rocky Mountain School of the Arts production
of "The Nutcracker." Charlie lives in Cody, Wyo.

Dick Berger lives in Denver, where he is a suicide and
crisis hotline counselor. • Michael Nettleton was
recognized by Who's Who Among America's Teachers for 2002. In his 30th
year of teaching, Michael lives in Denver and also serves on the State
World Language Advisory Council. • Kristin Olson
lives in Palm Springs, Calif., where she is founder and owner of Urban
Yoga Center. • Ann Morrison Smith spent two weeks
this past winter in Sydney, Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, where
she was an invited speaker on Smith-Magenis Syndrome. She also led a team
conducting an SMS research clinic for 18 families while at Camp Breakaway.
• Rick Tharp is a doctoral candidate in theatre
and performance studies at the University of Maryland at College Park.
He is enjoying "the never-ending excitement" of the Washington,
D.C. area with his wife Lauren, son Tommy, and daughter Miranda. Rick's
older son, Andy, attends Claremont-McKenna College. • Mac
Tiger-Toll and Jessie Schwartz '02 are colleagues
at Montclair Elementary School in Denver, where they teach English as
a second language to K-5 children from a variety of countries. •
Joan Dobrowolski Urbaniak was named executive director
of the year by the Community Associations Institute, for her work with
the California chapters of the 16,000-member organization. • Pat
Donnelly Ziegler and family still live in the backwoods of northeast
Florida. She would love to hear from anyone living in or visiting the
area.

Jim McDowell, vice president of marketing for BMW of
North America, L.L.C., was named one of Automotive News' marketers of
the year. • Rudy Melena has been a principal for
Jefferson County, Colo., public schools for 11 years. • Frank
Moen is vice president for the Joint Operations Division, which
provides support to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the
development of Joint Doctrine. Joint Doctrine includes future warfighting
concepts, e-learning courses for the conduct of joint operations, and
development of gaming software for both the Department of Defense and
the commercial sector. • Thomas and Janis Dickey '76 Taylor
report that a group dating back to 1970 traveled to Las Vegas, N.M., for
the most recent John Connolly dinner. Brad Turk and his
wife Leslie played host to 30 classmates from across the country. The
three days were spent renewing old friendships and making new ones. "Never

Jeff Haney is a member of the board of the Martin Luther
Home Foundation and attended his first meeting in January, extending a
family relationship with MLH that began in 1979. Jeff's parents, Don
'33 and Gratia Bell Blackman '34 Haney, helped
bring MLH to Colorado Springs more than 23 years ago, and Jeff's brother,
Stephen, was one of the first residents in a Martin Luther Homes duplex,
back in 1979. • Fred Klashman and his wife Leslie
publish metro New York's food service newspaper, TFS-Total Food Service.
At age 49, Fred enjoys something he never did while playing for Jeff Sauer's
Tiger hockey team... ice time. Fred plays on three teams in suburban New
York City. • Marr Leisure is president of Leisure
Capital Management in Costa Mesa, Calif. • David Malpass,
chief global economist for Bear Stearns, was on campus in April to deliver
the H. Chase Stone Memorial Lecture, which was entitled "Economic
Debates from Wall Street to Washington."

Sam Dashevsky lives outside Fairbanks, Alaska, with his
wife Tako Raynolds and their children, Margi and David. Sam is a senior
geologist and manager of Northern Associates, Inc. Besides prospecting
for precious and base-metal deposits, Sam enjoys traveling interior Alaskan
rivers in the summer and sampling remote hot springs in the winter. •
John Grenardo is single and living in Denver. •
Doug Obletz received an honorary degree at the college's
Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2003 in May. Doug is co-owner and
development/project manager at Shiels, Obletz and Johnsen in Portland,
Ore. • Ken Salazar received the Anti-Defamation
League's Civil Rights Award at a ceremony in December. Ken is Colorado's
attorney general.

25th Reunion - Oct. 10-12, 2003!
Patricia Donnelly Cotton and Martin Betzing were married
Sept. 14 at the Air Force Academy Community Chapel in Colorado Springs.
They live in Colorado Springs, where Pat teaches special education at
Doherty High School. • Jo Ann Schneider Farris
had a surprise reunion with Jennie Bails Wallace at Ski
Cooper near Leadville, Colo. The two ran into each other at the ski rental
area and had a wonderful reunion on the slopes. They hadn't seen each
other for 25 years and continued catching up at Jennie's home in Buena
Vista. • Sam Harper wrote the screenplay for "Just
Married," which opened across the country in January. The movie was
inspired by Sam's chaotic experiences on his own honeymoon in Italy 15
years ago.
• Howard Lehman and Joe Henning
'84 bumped into each other at a Fulbright orientation in Tokyo in October
2002. Howard is spending the year teaching political science at Kyushu
University in Fukuoka, and Joe is teaching history at Tohoku University
in Sendai. • Jeannette Barnes Lessels won the Pushcart
Prize in poetry in 2001. She is an access services librarian at Auburn
University in Montgomery, Ala. • Suzie Moore Pearce
is executive director of the Friends of the Children's Justice Center
in Honolulu, Hawaii. • Carol Stott St. Jean is
an associate director of admissions at Colorado State University in Fort
Collins, Colo. • Timothy Wilt is a professor of
medicine in the Minneapolis VA Center for Chronic Disease Outcomes Research.
He presented his research results at the International Prostate Cancer
Symposium held in Vail, Colo., and also was able to spend a couple of
days skiing and snow-shoeing with classmates Mike Craine
and Joel Stine.

Nanci Hill Feeney lives in Southern California with her
husband John and their daughters, Olivia and Blythe. Nanci was honored
as a 2002 International World Champion with the San Diego Chorus of the
Sweet Adelines. She also appeared as a guest artist with the San Diego
Symphony. • Carol Petsonk received an honorary
degree at the college's Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2003 in
May. Carol presented the keynote address at Opening Convocation. She lives
in Washington, D.C., where she is the international counsel for the Environmental
Defense Fund. • Chris Rich and Darsi Myers were
married Jan. 4 in Middleburg, Va. They live in New Delhi, where Chris
is a political officer at the U.S. Embassy.
