Mullins Named AVCA First-Team All-American; Jenks Earns Honorable Mention Laurels

Georgia Mullins joined an exclusive group of Colorado College volleyball players by earning first-team All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in recognition of her season-long performance during the recently completed 2021 campaign.

Sophomore setter Jenny Jenks was named an honorable-mention All-American.

Mullins is one of nine Colorado College student-athletes who have earned first-team All-America honors at least once. The others are Elissa Breitbard (1987), Amy Smith (1987), Cathy Costello (1987, '88, '89), Sara Boyles (2001), Lizzy Counts (2017), Emily Perkins (2009, '10), Abbe Holtze (2013, '15) and Courtney Birkett (2015).

A native of Olathe, Kan., Mullins solidified her status as one of the most dominant players in the 43-year history of CC volleyball with a pair of outstanding performances during the 2021 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship.

During the four-set victory over No. 16 Ohio Northern University in the first round, Mullins put down a match-high 20 kills to became just the 11th player in program history to record 1,000 or more in her career.

With the last of her match-high 17 kills against No. 4 Wartburg College, Mullins became only the third Tiger to produce 500 or more in a single season. She joined Katharine Hauschka, who set the school record of 537 in 2004, and Holtze, who recorded 522 in 2014, on the exclusive list.

In CC's two NCAA postseason matches this year against a pair of top-16 opponents, Mullins hit .476 and averaged 5.29 kills per set.

"As I have stated many times, Georgia is a remarkable, memorable, and unique volleyball player," head coach Sharon Dingman said. "There is no other player in DIII volleyball that impacts the game the way Georgia does.

"Georgia has put in the work over her time at CC to position herself for this great honor. She is so highly regarded across the country but mostly in our gym. Our team is fortunate to have had the opportunity to be around her, learn from her and now emulate her work ethic and desire to win. Georgia has had an illustrious career and deserves the recognition."

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference co-Player of the Year and first-team all-conference selection currently ranks 11th in Division III at 4.88 points per set, 29th averaging 3.97 kills and 46th with a .346 hitting percentage.

In addition to her 500 kills, Mullins also set career highs with 614.5 points, 232 digs, 128 total blocks and 43 service aces.

Jenks, the SCAC Setter of the Year and first-team all-conference selection, orchestrated Colorado College's balanced attack that ranks 22nd nationally with a .237 team hitting percentage.

"In Jenny's first season as our starting 5-1 setter, she led our team with her own style," Dingman said. "Jenny has a feel for the game that allows her to make great decisions. She is such a talented setter who delivers hittable balls consistently, and she scored many points for us behind the service line. With a setter of Jenny's caliber, we knew we had a chance to win every time we took the floor."

The Hermosa Beach, Calif., product averaged 10.94 assists per game, which ranks fourth in Division III.

Jenks dished out 1,370 assists during the 2021 campaign, which ranks second on the program's single-season list.

She also become the second CC setter to record 400 or more digs in single-season, finishing the year with 410 which ranks 28th on the program's single-season chart.

Mullins and Jenks helped lead Colorado College to a 30-6 record and the program's 23rd-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

"I'm honored to have coached Jenny and Georgia this fall," Dingman said. "Our entire team appreciates what Jenny and Georgia helped us accomplish this season."
