Dano Beal’90
Dano Beal (MAT) teaches at Lafayette Elementary School in Seattle, Wash. He recently received Disney’s American Teacher Award, recognizing him for his talents, skills, and commitment to his profession. • After six years on Wall Street, Kevin Boeh is living in London, Ont., where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in business strategy. He reports, “It has been a wild few years, and now I plan to write books about it.” • Naomi Cohen Ivker lives in Birmingham, Ala., with her husband Joshua and their sons, Gabriel and Raphael. Naomi is an attorney with Zarzaur and Schwartz, P.C.

• After a year in the U.K. where he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of London, Keller Kimbrough is back in Waterville, Maine, where he is an assistant professor at Colby College. • In March, Andrea Peterson had a perfect match kidney transplant. To celebrate, she spent a week in Maui, Hawaii, where she biked down Haleakala, an active volcano, snorkeled off the coast of Lanai, and took a helicopter tour of the island. • Todd Prusin and Pamela Sussin were married May 11 in Cleveland, Ga. Alumni in attendance were Margaret Miller ’85, Chip ’89 and Courtney Cutter ’89 Sagal, Seth Bossung, Kevin Drennan, and John Durham. Also in attendance was Doug Gertner, Loomis Hall’s director from 1986-1988.

After completing her Ph.D. at the University of Dundee (Scotland) this summer, Mary Therese Anstey and partner John Elliott have moved to Melbourne, Australia. • Amy Hempe has been teaching at North High School in Denver for three years. • Kristin Poulson-Taliaferro lives in Denver with her husband Stephen and their children, Kate and Jack. • Lauren McArthur began a doctoral program in the fall at the University of Michigan.

Ian Newman is an assistant professor of English and journalism at SUNY Rockland Community College in Suffern, N.Y., where he lives with his partner David and their menagerie of pets. Ian has published essays and stories in Brain, Child; Utne Reader; Genre; North Dakota Quarterly; and Hudson Valley magazine. • David Rippon and Heather Alumbaugh were married Aug. 16 in Livermore, Calif. Phil Rutherford ’90 was a groomsman. David is a senior emergency planner at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. • David Thrower is a shareholder at the law firm of Dietze and Davis in Boulder, Colo. • Shaharra Usnick is a risk mitigation specialist at the USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service in Riverdale, Md.

Bridget Benton owns Eyesaflame in Portland, Ore. • Randy and Melea Madsen Benzel live in Castle Rock, Colo., with their children Kendal, Cameron, and Courtney. Randy is a data warehouse architect for Trip Network, and Melea is in her ninth year as owner of Little Goose School. • Tim and Cassi Cooper Hammerstein live in Denver with their daughter Zoe. Tim is a premedical graduate student at the University of Colorado-Denver, and Cassi enjoys continued success with her graphic design company. Zoe occasionally enjoys the company of Annika McLean, daughter of Ted McLean ’90, and Steven and Spencer Krupa, sons of Mickey Krupa ’90. • Rahul Kapur works at the U.S. Department of Labor in the M.B.A. fellows program. • Doug Lansky’s book, “First Time Around the World,” contains useful tips, reflections, and humor on circumnavigating the globe, backpacker-style.

Kimberly Nearpass-Pollack is a naturopathic physician with Mountain River Naturopathic Clinic in Frisco, Colo. • Lara Bishop Ravenwood and Lorna Wheeler were married in August 2003. Lara is a graduate student in mathematics at the University of Colorado–Boulder. • Zach Rosen and his wife Barbara live in Fort Mill, S.C., where Zach is a merchandise manager with Springs Industries. • Eric Schwent is a software tester for Epic in Madison, Wis. Much to their mutual surprise, Stacy Wood ’91 also works at Epic, right across the hall. While students at CC, they were both math paraprofessionals. “What are the odds?!” • Tiffany Vandenhul (MAT ’99) lives in Colorado Springs, where she teaches for District #12. Heather Hetzeck is an outreach manager with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. She is enjoying life in Annapolis, Md., and stays active running triathlons and marathons. • Sara Joel and Ashesh Mehta were married May 31 in New York City. Soon after, she went to Las Vegas with Cirque du Soleil to perform in their latest production, “Zumanity,” an erotic cabaret at the New York – New York Hotel and Casino. • Jesse Kruckeberg is a firefighter and paramedic with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. • Bitsy Krueger Parks teaches second grade in Hillsboro, Ore. • Jessica Saberman is working hard to build her family medicine practice on the north side of Indianapolis, Ind. • Joshua Schachter is a photographer with Voices Inc. and teaches photography to teens for a youth magazine in Tucson, Ariz. • Michelle Frailey Walter works at Creation Studios in Englewood, Colo.

Wendy Abeyta Bulow is a physician assistant with Pueblo Community Health Center in Pueblo, Colo. • Claire Carpenter and Gary Miller were married June 9, 2002, at Camp N-Sid-Sen, Idaho. They are living in Spokane, Wash., where Claire has accepted a tenure-track biology teaching position at Yakima Valley Community College. • Drew Crumbaugh and Nicole Levesque were married June 21 in Green Mountain Falls, Colo. Alumni in attendance were Alan Blomquist, Jim Clarkeson, Jeff Frantz, Jon ’95 and Lori Larsen Driscoll, Langdon ’95 and Megan Bray Foss, and Peter Devine ’99. • Dave Davies is a project coordinator with the Portland Development Commission in Portland, Ore., where he lives with his wife Courtney and their son Spencer. • Lori Larsen Driscoll and her husband Jonathan ’95 are back in Colorado Springs, where Lori is an assistant professor of psychology at CC. Jonathan is continuing his studies to become a paramedic. • Cullen Hughes is serving two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in northeast Thailand with his wife Vanessa.

Tim Hurtado completed his residency in emergency medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center at the University of Washington–Tacoma, and is off to Seoul, Korea for two years. • Brady Nathan is a fellow in pediatric endocrinology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. • Amy Noonan works at the national headquarters of the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. • Tara Nott and Casey Cunningham were married July 5 in Stanley, Kan. They live in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. • Avery Runner is an audio department head with Space Dub Studios in Colorado Springs.

Matthew Singer and Jennifer App were married Aug. 18, 2001. Matthew is an attorney with Jermain Dunnagan & Owens P.C. in Anchorage, Alaska. • Rob Stone lives in Chicago, Ill., where he is a blues harmonica player with his band, “Rob Stone and the C-Notes.” They signed with the Earwig Music label and their CD, “Just My Luck,” was released in the summer. • Kerry Inkell Trietley reports that she and her husband, Andy, are thrilled to be back living in sunny Colorado. • Lynda Walsh is an assistant professor of English at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro. • Marina Tigner Whitacre is a graduate research assistant at Utah State University in Logan, where she lives with her husband Heath.

They live in Roxbury Crossing, Mass., where Kate is pursuing a Ph.D. in art history at Boston University. • David Barnett and Geneva Chong were married Aug. 9 in Jackson, Wyo. David reports that there were “lots of CC [people] there.” • Margaret Berglund is a biology teacher at Hayden High School, and also the El Pomar Youth in Community Service Advisor in Hayden, Colo. • Michaela Brezin and Jason Zisk were married Jan. 12, 2003, in Costa Rica. • Robert Hedge teaches elementary school for Adams School District in Thornton, Colo. • Rebecca Jensen and John Maw were married Sept. 28, 2002. • Eric Johansson lives in San Francisco, Calif., where he is an account manager at Legalmatch.com. Sarah Bay is an associate attorney with the law firm of Fraser Stryker in Omaha, Neb. • Ryan Bennett works in business development for GE Wind Energy in Tehachapi, Calif. • Jeremy Canwell lives in New Brunswick, N.J., and is pursuing a Ph.D. in art history at Rutgers University. • Whitney Killip is living and working in Stuttgart, Germany. • Elaine Knobbs is a graduate student at the University of California-Berkeley School of Public Health. • As a finalist at September’s Toronto Film Festival, Andrew Mudge had 10 days to write, shoot, and edit a film. Mudge’s work, called “The Perfect Gooseys,” won the 2003 Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival award. He will receive a $1 million budget to bring his feature-length film, “The P.T. Johansen Field Guide to North American Monsters,” to the screen through Universal Studios. • Joseph Sharman, CC’s computer help desk manager, and student Hyo Lee ’04 traveled to Kenya along with computers donated by CC to Kenya Methodist University in the foothills of Mt. Kenya. They helped an elementary school near KEMU set up and use computers for the first time. • Simon Waldbaum is pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical neuroscience at Colorado State University–Fort Collins.

Andrew Borene recently returned from Iraq with the 1st Marine Division, where he was serving as an intelligence officer. He and his wife Britta live in Carlsbad, Calif., with their son Magnus. • Emily Brendler and Andy Shoff ’96 were married Aug. 17, 2002, at Emily’s grandmother’s home on the coast of Maine. Amber McIntosh and Rob Sanders ’99 live in Socorro, N.M., where they are both working on their master’s theses at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. When not at school, they are busy remodeling their home and staking mineral claims. “It’s still the wild, wild West out here.” • Josh and Laurel Smith ’99 Messer celeb ’99 Messer celebrated four years of marriage in September. Josh is in his third year of medical school at the University of Connecticut and Laurel is a clinical research assistant at the Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center in Hartford, Conn. • Derek Richardson starred in the movie “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,” where he played the role of Harry.

Jenny Rustmann bought a house in Dublin, Calif., and recently spent three weeks in the French Alps, where she toured a lot of castles and chateaux. • Russell Slaughter and Phillipa Anderson were married Nov. 30, 2002, in Walpole, Western Australia. They live in Perth, where Russell is completing a master’s degree in renewable energy at Murdoch University. • Rachel Sobrero lives in Murfreesboro, Tenn., where she is an attorney. • Christine Stolz-Noel lives in Palm Bay, Fla., where she is working on a nursing degree and spending time at Walt Disney World with her son. • Selen Ucak is a program officer with the Tiger Foundation in New York City. • Robyn Wood is a graphic designer with her company, Daisy Porkchop, in New York. • Kazuya Yamamoto is vice president of U.S. equity sales at Lehman Brothers in their Tokyo office. He received a green card in March and plans to move to the U.S. soon.

Brendan Dotson teaches for Seattle Public Schools in Seattle, Wash. He has taken up playing the banjo, the Spanish guitar, exploring the Cascade Mountains, collecting old vinyl blues and bluegrass records, and playing soccer in a city league. • Jason Flynn and Trisha Lindner ’00 were married June 22, 2002, in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
