After 28 years in Alaska, Richard and Patricia
Nickel Brown have retired to their property near
Kiowa, Colo., with their dogs and horses. • John
and Debbie Hingston ’73 Dolson
have relocated to London after living in Cairo, Egypt, for
“eight sunny years with no rain.” John is an advisor
for BP in worldwide exploration and Debbie is a teacher at
The American International School in Switzerland (TASIS),
located in Surrey. They own a home stateside and continue
to live in it part of the year. • Heather Harris
is spending a year in Gunnison, Colo., where she is writing
a book about a cashmere goat ranch. • John Krauss
was elected to serve as a vice president on the board of the
Indianapolis Museum of Art. • Rosemary McCandless
is a technical editor for the Journal of Biological Psychiatry
at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in
Dallas.

Iain Sherwood completed his first CD of bagpipe
music, “Armed and Dangerous,” with fellow piper

Barb Rogers Diehl designed the poster for
the 2003 Colorado Shakespeare Festival at the University of
Colorado–Boulder. It was selected for inclusion in the
PRINT magazine regional design issue which came out in the
fall. Barb is the senior graphic designer at CU’s publications
and creative services department, where she has been on staff
since 1974. • Ken Watson is a librarian at Eastern Oregon
University in La Grande, Ore. He reports that at an advanced
age of over 50, he has built a marimba and joined a marimba
band.

Richard Byess retired in June after a 23-year,
“richly rewarding career” with the U.S. Agency
for International Development. He is now the director of new
business for World Vision, a Christian humanitarian relief
and development organization with operations in nearly 100
countries. • Jeff Chism was named a
“2003 Super Lawyer” by Washington Law and Politics
magazine, along with two other CC graduates, Bruce
Edwards ’76 and Peter Offenbecher ’76.
• Tom Hiester reports that he has worked
his way “back into wind energy.” He is a regional
project developer with Invenergy L.L.C., in Sammamish, Wash.
• Nancy Pattee Malitz and family moved
to Portland, Ore., four years ago, where she and her family
enjoy skiing, camping, hiking, and going to the beach. Nancy
teaches a third/fourth grade class at St. Paul Lutheran School.

Andrew Gulliford is the author of “Boomtown
Blues,” a chronicle of the social, environmental, and
financial havoc created by the oil shale industry in Colorado.
Andrew lives in Durango, Colo., where he is the director of
the Center for Southwest Studies and professor of Southwest
studies and history at Fort Lewis College. • After 22
years in Tempe, Ariz., Scottie Brown Jones
and her husband Greg moved to a 40-acre farm in the rural
community of Alsea, Ore. • Fraser McAlpine
joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, L.L.P., as the
chair of the labor and employment law section in their Houston,
Texas, office.

Bruce Edwards was named a “2003 Super
Lawyer” by Washington Law and Politics magazine, along

Howe is professor of finance at the University of
Missouri-Columbia and was recently appointed Missouri Bankers
Chair in the College of Business. • Eric Sondermann
reports that his Denver-based firm, Sondermann/E-Squared,
has become something of a CC magnet, through no real intent
or design. Edie Dulacki ’86 is affiliated
as a project partner, Melanie Thielen ’98
is building a consulting practice in institutional and nonprofit
fundraising and development, and Cody Carter
’02 is an associate.

'77 reminisced while dining at Le Café de Paris, in Quebec
City, Canada, where they were both visiting. Sara lives
in Princeton, N.J., and Isolde lives in Dresden, Germany,
where she teaches foreign languages as a freelancer. Isolde

Robert Zimmerman presented a paper at the
62nd annual conference on Mass Properties Engineering in New
Haven, Conn., and received the award for best technical paper.
The paper was described as “a real pleasure to read
due to its crisp preciseness and grammatical clarity.”
Robert lives in Conifer, Colo., where he is a staff engineer
with Lockheed Martin Space Systems. He credits CC with making
him an anomaly – an engineering scientist with the ability
to write.

Neal Baer was honored at Lupus L.A.’s
Evening of Love, Light, and Laughter on Oct. 1 at the Beverly
Hills Hotel. He received the Loop Award for his commitment
to raising awareness of lupus. • Bruce Marcus
upgraded his career by joining UBS Financial Services as a
senior vice president. He lives in the Bucktown area of Chicago
with his wife Jeanne and their son, Andrew. • John
Monteiro was a visiting professor in the history
department of Harvard University for the fall term, where
he taught courses on colonial Latin America and slavery in
Brazil. • Bob Moog is chairman and
president of University Games in Burlingame, Calif. One of
their all-time best-selling games is Murder Mystery Party.

Caron was named executive vice president of marketing
for Olive Garden. • Liz Paul and family
have moved to San Francisco, where she accepted a position
in strategic planning for Amazon Advertising. Fellow CC alumna
Millie Olson ’68 is the president of
Amazon Advertising and occasionally comes to campus to teach
in Professor Larry Stimpert’s marketing class. •
Mark Saiki lives in Berthoud, Colo., and
is a graduate student in history at the University of Northern
Colorado–Greeley. • Timothy Tymkovich
was sworn in as a judge on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals
for Colorado at a ceremony in June. Timothy lives in Broomfield
with his wife Suzanne Lyon. • Patty Ungar-Linssen
has lived in San Diego, Calif., for 19 years. She and her
husband Philip have three children: a 10-year-old
daughter and five-year-old twin boys. Patty works part time
in her own veterinary practice, doing conventional and holistic
medicine.

Zadravec White supervises apparel, housewares, and
domestics at the Northeast regional buying office for Costco
Wholesale. She lives in Sterling, Va., and would enjoy hearing
from former classmates. • In September, Lennard
Zinn, president of Zinn Cycles in Lafayette, Colo.,
was the guest of honor at a bike ride and brunch sponsored
by the Boulder and Denver alumni groups.

Amy Bass and James Luke were married June
28. • Jim Bowman was furloughed from
United Airlines and is now serving as an academic faculty
member and instructor pilot at the U.S. Air Force Academy
in Colorado Springs. • Robert and Anne
Fernald Cross have moved to Tulsa, Okla., with their
children, Natalie and Andrew. • Joel van Diver
lives in Montecito, Calif., with his wife Wendy and their
five children. Joel is the co-founder and senior managing
director of Lugano Partners L.L.C.

Todd Bohle is a hydrologist with Seattle
Public Utilities at the Cedar River Watershed in North Bend,
Wash. • Kristi Parker Celico and her
husband Frank live in Keystone, Colo., with their children,
Samuel and Sasha. Kristi continues to work as a mediator on
environmental and health public policy issues. • Linda
Ellis Cummings lives in Bangkok, Thailand, where
she is the chorus master of the Bangkok Opera and the Orpheus
Choir, and recently sang the role of first lady in their production
of “The Magic Flute.” • Buck Laukitis
is “still catching lots of salmon, halibut, and black
cod in Alaska.” Classmate Dan Leonardi
comes up from California every fall to crew for halibut fishing.
They have fun exploring the Aleutians when they aren’t
working. Buck is on the board of the Alaska Marine Conservation
Council and is the president of the North Pacific Fisheries
Association in Homer, Alaska. Buck, his wife Shelly, and their
daughters, Claire and Teal, will spend the winter in France.
• Michael Szyliowicz visited Perpignan,
France, in July, where he had spent several months as part
of a CC program in 1984. He spent time with his host family,
with whom he has kept in touch. “To see them again and
to revisit Perpignan after all this time was a wonderful experience
and brought back many fond memories!” Michael is a chocolatier
in Denver.

Allison Grimm Basili teaches elementary school
in St. Augustine, Fla., where she lives with her husband Gianfranco
and their children, Alexandra and Benjamin. • Michael
Conti is the founder of the Colorado Chapter of Group101
Films, whose members make a short film per month regardless
of time, funds, etc. He lives in Longmont, Colo., with his
wife Amanda and their two young children. • Walt
Enterline works in the technology solutions group
at Washington Mutual in Seattle, Wash., where he also spends
a lot of time chasing his four-year old twins. • Lee
Sessions lives in Portland, Ore., where he is a human
resources manager with Intel Corp.

After living in Milan, Italy, for five years, Courtney
Scott Chiasson has relocated to Denver. “It
has taken a while, but I’m more or less over the ‘reverse
culture shock’ of returning to the States.” •
David Kice is an FBI agent assigned to the
Los Angeles field office, where he is the leader of the crime
scene investigation team. • Matt and
Jean Stephens ’86 Lehman live
in Seattle, Wash., with their sons, Sam and Ian. • Peter
Loach lives in San Salvador, El Salvador, where he
is country director for CHF International. • Bret
McClanahan is an executive at the world corporate
headquarters for El Rey Stucco Co in Albuquerque, N.M. Bret
volunteered on the Habitat for Humanity project in Albuquerque,
where El Rey Stucco donated stucco materials.

After 10 years living and working in the Greater China region,
Brian Grossman is back in the States. He
is living in Breckenridge, Colo., and enjoying some quality
time off. • Kim Race teaches mathematics
at Littleton High School in Littleton, Colo. Last summer she
traveled through England with Maryrose Kohan
and Lori Johnson ’89. • Kristin
Wolf is an emergency physician at Benedictine Hospital

are both in elementary education and teach dance and movement

Shaw and William Skidmore were married June 27 in
Pueblo, Colo. They live in Charlotte, N.C., where Meg is an
