John Gagliardi celebrated his 50th season as head football coach at Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., during the 2002 season. The winningest active coach (and second all-time) in college football history, John currently owns a 400-114-11 collegiate career record. • Wallace Wilson is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife Mary live in Newport News, Va. They recently visited the campus and enjoyed all the new sights.

Jeanne Lamar Deis sadly reports the death of her daughter, Carol Jeanne Danis, in August.

The second edition of Duncan Stephens’ book, “Home Remodeling Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them,” was published by Publishing on Demand. He and his wife Eileen have “the longest-running remodeling project” on their home in Woodbury, Conn., to add an office for Eileen and a larger workshop for Duncan. Duncan is completing his second term as president of a barbershop chorus in which he sings bass. • Bill Thompson sadly reports the death of his wife Eileen, a former Broadway and Columbia Records singing star, who passed away on July 13.

Tom Fitzgerald and Bill Riley joined Doug Little, John Wharton, and Dave Van Metre ’59 in Omaha, Neb., in June for the College Baseball World Series. • Bob Hendee works on the Travis County Child Protective Services Board and the Travis County Child Fatality Review in Austin, Texas.

Nadine Brown Bond enjoys living in the north woods of Wisconsin. She works part time as a nurse practitioner, which allows her time to enjoy her 10 grandchildren. She also spends time at her condominium in Taos, N.M. • Illis Ferry Burke traveled extensively for 25 years during her career as a travel agent, and she continues to do so in retirement. She volunteers with Rebuilding Together, which refurbishes homes for elderly, low income, and disabled people. • After spending a year in Colorado, Sara Clifford Hammond decided to move back to Jacksonville, Fla., in August. “I miss the green, the ocean, and all my friends.” • John Larkin retired in 2002 from Louisiana State University and now lives in Green Valley, Ariz. • Norma Wolff Smith is retired and living in Richardson, Texas.

After an early retirement from the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1991, Robert Burford returned to Fort Worth, Texas, where he has done a number of “keep-busy” jobs. He currently teaches historical geology at Tarrant County College. • Janey Chatman Guest and her husband Mike return to visit the CC campus for the Summer Music Festival each July. “It is a perfect musical experience and our favorite getaway.”

Robert Graham and wife Judy took a motorcycle trip from Munich through the Alps to Corsica, around Corsica and back to Munich. He is a partner with McKay, Byrne and Graham in Los Angeles. • Ginny Metcalf Heckel and Evan Heckel ’64 have both retired and moved to their new home on a ridgetop in the mountains of northeast Georgia. Ginny reports that, having raised two sons while living in Houston and now enjoying the view of the Great Smoky Mountains in the midst of solace and beauty, life is good. • Johanna Waller Herrick and Kenneth Herrick ’65 moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 2001, after 25 years on the big island of Hawaii. Ken retired as director of libraries at the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Johanna retired in 1995 as a school librarian and has been writing poetry ever since. One son, John, graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. • Anne Wilson Jacobson and her husband Jake are retired and living in Glendale, Ariz. They have been married 40 years and have two children and two grandchildren. “That’s it!” Anne reports. • Marcia Moses Johnson was elected to the Denver City Council on June 3. Husband Will ’62 helped with campaign duties, and daughter and son-in-law Paul and Jill Johnson Moreno ’89, who live in Langhorne, Penn., worked on their Denver friends. CC friends Kate Berthrong Durham and Isabel Williams Shanahan also lent their support.

Robert Baker received the prestigious Kenneth K. King Management Award from Goodwill Industries International for 2003. The award is presented to a Goodwill executive in recognition of outstanding management abilities. Robert is the president and C.E.O. of Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs.

Susan Fertig-Dykes was at the American Enterprise Institute on July 24 to hear Vice President Dick Cheney speak. She had the opportunity to speak to Lynne Vincent Cheney ’63 and the two reminisced about the variety shows they were in as students. Susan is a political appointee in the Bush/Cheney administration, working at USAID on Bosnia issues – a good fit since Susan and her husband lived and worked in Croatia and Bosnia during the conflict and after (1993-1999).

Mac Callaway celebrated his 60th birthday by joining the Copenhagen Lacrosse Club, helping to teach and promote the sport in Denmark “and having a little fun on the side.” • Terry Rosen wrote “The Atomic City: A First-hand Account by a Son of Los Alamos,” published by Eakin Press.

Bill Kennedy was appointed the new executive director of the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation in Montreal.

Millie Olson is the president of Amazon Advertising and occasionally comes to campus to teach in Professor Larry Stimpert’s marketing class.

35th Cluster Reunion, Oct. 8-10, 2004!

John and Stephanie Sears
’70 Volkman have been in Portland, Ore., for 30 years. Their kids have “more or less flown the coop – one getting married next year and one a college sophomore.” John is still practicing law and writing on Northwest natural resource issues, and Stephanie works for Hoyt Arboretum.
