McLeod Wins Benny Award

Scott McLeod '71 has something that's becoming a
rarity in the U.S. economy
a successful, family-run business.
Pikes Peak Lithograph-ing Co. has been in McLeod's family
since 1956. Last
year, the Colorado Springs company won a Benny award
named for Benjamin
Franklin, the first American printer which is the Printing
Industries of
America's equivalent of the Oscar. It was the first to
win all three
categories in which it competed.
McLeod's father, Frank, became ill in 1977, prompting
Scott to join the
business. Known early on for producing brochures for the burgeoning
Front
Range tourism industry, the family decided to specialize in
the use of their
large-format presses.
Pikes Peak Litho now produces limited-edition lithographs,
movie posters,
point-of-purchase printing, and high-quality maps like those
created by
Raven Maps & Images, which the Wall Street Journal called
"the world's
most beautiful."
Scott likes working with sister Lynn, mother Lucy, and the
13 other people
on the staff. "It's very enjoyable to work with
your family, especially when
you don't mind being around them," he says. Another
perk has been the West
Coast motorcycle trips Scott has taken to call on clients.
Scott graduated from CC with a desire to achieve a law degree
and avoid
Vietnam
(not necessarily in that order). After completing law school
at the
University of Denver, he practiced law for a time and coached
high school
basketball in Montana. Over the years, he's also enjoyed
skiing and
photography.
His daughter Dana is a senior at CC, and his sister Laurel
McLeod '69, MAT
'75 is
vice president for student life.
